Based on the fact that 20.6% of the district population are in the ELL program, an instructional strategy I would use in the classroom is using small groups and model desired skills and outcomes. ELL students need a lot of modeling and visual aids when it comes to instruction, without that, and just using lectures will have the students confused and lost and not understand the information they are receiving, but if the teacher is modeling what is expected of them, especially if they are active during, even if they do not understand the language, they can still visually see what is expected. This module has helped me to understand that you cannot approach all ELL students the same due to their culture background and characteristics. I learned that there were many strategies that I already used within my classroom, such as using visuals and videos. Also, I realized that the same strategies that used with my ELL students could be used with my struggling learners within my classroom. Academic writing is a vital instrument for the proper thoughts expression which will provide the reader with a cohesive and balanced information. Taking ESL 273 has greatly improved my writing and organizing skills. Unfortunately, my strong sides, consisted of detailed examples and powerful grammar structure, weren't realized as much as they could or usually implemented. I grow up as an English Language Learner (ELL) and it was difficult to know what language to speak in certain environment. I was part of ELL for largest part of my education life and even though various peers were in it as well I felt out of place and struggled more in class. I needed extra support with reading and writing because it was a new language. It was hard to manage two contrasting language and I would not know what language to use, but when I started the third grade it was all English and I still was in the ELL program.
