In order to effectively solve a problem, understanding the complexity of the problem is the key. For my academic life, I think listening from different voices, see things in different perspectives, and think outside the box will be good ways to embrace the complexity. Assume if I am the leader of a small group project, I will give each of the team members a chance to express their opinions and encourage all of them to have different ideas. Like the author of the article stated that only listen to experts will be dangerous since the experts usually are not as smart as people expected them to be. My parents have always been telling me to read different types of book to give myself a broader view, so I can think more deeply when confronted with hard problems. Now is the right time to continue adopting the advice from my parents by gaining knowledges of different things in the world. College is a great time for me to develop a profound understanding of complexity of the world since there are endless resources and different people from diverse backgrounds. In this class, I expect to learn the skills that is applicable for my future career and trains myself to be more prepared and better qualified for my future position. Back in high school, I had always been a shy and introverted person, refusing to step out of my comfort zone. However, seeking a career pass in business requires me to step out of my comfort zone and explore my potentials. Staying in the comfort zone and never experience new things and never try to understand the complexity of the world will never help me achieve my big, hairy, audacious goal. My big, hairy, audacious goal for now is to be financially independent, so my parents don’t have to work so hard to support me. Also, I want to be an accountant and work my way up to be a Chief Accounting Officer, and maybe start a company of my own. My big, hairy, audacious goal might not be as big, as hairy and as audacious as other people’s, but I am willing to prepare myself in order to achieve my goal. This year, I am going to join the University Finance Association, in which I can have a deeper understanding of finance, and Austin Meal Movement, which is an organization dedicated to raise money for charity. Through raising money to help the needy, I can improve myself while helping others. Also, I will continue to stay active in Asian Business Student Association, where I served at a committee member planning one of the largest philanthropic event, Feed Your Mind, on campus.
