Many people may not be aware, but embryonic stem cell research has the ability to cure diseases. Stem cells have the potential to cure Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, ALS. spinal cord injuries, and more. Embryonic stem cells have the ability to grow into all cell types of the body, including blood cells, muscle cells, and brain cells. That being said, they can act as a replacement for cells or organs that are damaged because of disease. When the cells are replaced, people are able to once again live …show more content…
happy, disease-free lives. In the long run, stem could cute hundreds, even thousands of people. In order to find more cures, it is important that stem cell research continues and grows.
Not only can embryonic stem cell research help cure diseases, but it could also play a very large role in economic growth.
Stem cells require research, and therefore also require people to do that research in labs. Because of this, more jobs open up in the scientific research field. When these jobs are filled and people begin getting paid, they become a part of the economy because they now have money that they can spend. Also, as mentioned in the paragraph before, embryonic stem cells can cure so many diseases. Once the people with the diseases are cured, they will be able to return to the work force and receive an income to spend. The more people with money to spend, the larger the economy will be. If stem cell research continues, more and more jobs opportunities will be created and more people will become employed, thus keeping this cycle going for years and
years.
Embryonic stem cell research's most controversial aspect is the religious aspect. Many Catholics, Jews, and Muslims have different views on the matter, but ultimately embryonic stem cells should not be a problem. This is because it is not stated in any religious book or scripture when life is given to an embryo, so one does not know whether they are really taking away a life. Also, technically speaking, an embryo is thought of as a living human being once all of its organs and systems are in function. That would mean the brain would have to be functioning, as well as all other organs. Embryos that are used in stem cell research have not yet developed organs and systems in their bodies, so they do not count as living. If they are not living, then using embryos is not factually considered a case of murder, therefore no religions can argue against it.
Overall, embryonic stem cell research has a very bright future that the rest of the world will benefit from. The research will help create a better economy, cure people with several diseases, and factually respect religious beliefs. Stem cells have even more potential than what has already been discovered, so with the continued research there is no telling what other positive things can be found.
