The second job career I did further research on is Emergency Nurse and while doing further research I found out that to become a Emergency Nurse you must become a Registered Nurse first. “The primary prerequisite for working as an emergency room RN is to be licensed by the state to work as a registered nurse. Licensure requirements vary slightly from state to state, but all state boards of nursing require candidates to complete an approved nursing course of instruction. This must be from an accredited institution and lead to an associate degree in nursing, a bachelor of science in nursing degree or a nursing diploma from a teaching hospital. The average national hourly rate for ER nurse is between $21.19 – $39.52 with average hourly tips of $0.72 and overtime pay of $20.56 – $59.55. The median yearly rate is $60.772” (ER Nurse Salary). It is hard to find a job in this position since they want people who have there credentials and have experience. Holding an RN license qualifies you to work in a hospital emergency room, but each hospital has its own level of experience requirements. Some might require you to work as a staff nurse for a period of time before assigning you to the emergency room, while others might hire newly minted RNs to work in the ER. Some hospitals and other facilities offer formal emergency nursing internships or orientation programs that can help you gain the additional skills required of an emergency room nurse” (Job Requirements). also since it is the emergency room you need to be able to remain calm. “ You should be in good physical condition as the job requires stamina. You'll need good communications skills; the ability to cope with pain, suffering and grief; and the strength to remain calm and keep your sense of humor, according to the Emergency Nurses Association” (Nurse School).
