Emili Lewis's House: A Short Story
One night we were at Emili Lewis’s house. A few of us girls wanted to try to stay up all night. It had been raining so we decided we wanted to go for a drive. This point of the night it was like 1:30 a.m. We drove for a little while before we got bored. We decided to brainstorm some ideas of stuff to do. We decided we wanted to go out to Box Canyon in Kaitlin’s truck to look at the stars. It took us a little while to get everything put together. We finally started heading out there at 3:00 a.m. On the way out there we passed a truck. The truck was very short, matte black, and had a circle light bar in between the headlights. None of us recognized the truck and we got a little nervous. We decided to ignore it and keep going. For the rest of the drive we talked about boys, problems, and then we started talking about scary stuff. When we got out there we were too scared to get out of the truck, so we turned around and started back into town. We got …show more content…
Well, we missed the turn. We were now on the road to box with only one known place to turn around. By the time we realized this, we were at the water company. With the black truck right behind us, and getting further away from town, we knew we needed to turn around. The speed limit is 35 mph on that road. We were easily going 50 mph. We had to slow down for curves and bends in the road. We were yelling at Kaitlin telling her to drive faster. We turned down Culen Highbe’s road and sure enough, he followed us. We flipped around, and he turned around right behind us. We decided we needed to drive very fast and try to create some distance so we could get into Emili’s house. We were driving as fast as we could while still being safe. We pulled up to Emili’s house and ran as fast as we could inside. The truck turned down the same road. We had barely made it inside. It was like we were in a movie, paralyzed with

The Donna J. Seifert and Joseph Balicki’s article, Mary Ann Hall's House, discusses about the archaeological investigations conducted at two vacant lots located at a proposed building site for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. In the archaeological investigations, the archaeologists discovered material remains associated with a mid-nineteenth brothel called Mary Ann Hall’s (Seifert and Balicki 2005:59). In addition to the discovery of the brothel, the archaeologists also discovered other households from the mid-nineteenth century that were built around the same time as the brothel. The two excavation sites provides an interesting case study in North American historical archaeology because, archaeologists working…

Our obligations to our relations having been lessened considerably, obstacles to our union failed to present themselves. Though she never told me so in words, Estella had grown weary in her way of life. The selling of her final worldly possession, and all those memories associated with it, had, I suspect, been her final step. If Providence had not found me treading the familiar grounds of Satis House, she would have been beyond my reach forever.…

We were almost through the state of North Carolina as we traveled on Interstate 95. It was rush hour and you could tell everyone was antsy and excited to get home. Cars traveled at 80 miles per hour, and some were even traveling faster than that. I could now see why it was ranked the fifth worst highway in North America. Cars were weaving in and out of traffic at over 90 miles per hour. Traffic was getting heavy. Listening to the radio, my dad and I sang along to a familiar song we both knew, “Yeah” by Usher. “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!”, we both sang while he drove. My dad always loved this song, so we had the radio turned almost all the way up. The song ended and we turned the radio down. We had already been on the road for ten hours so we were beginning to get a little tired. It was almost 5:00 in the evening and we did not eat lunch, so we were both getting hungry as well. “Where do you want to stop for dinner?”, I asked him. My dad looked at the food signs next to the highway as I looked up places on my phone where we could grab a bite. Just as I was about to name off a few places where we could go, my phone flew out of my hand and my head jolted forward.…

On the night of Saturday, October 11th, Logan and I went out for a typical Saturday date night. This night in particular we had decided to do a haunted hayride called the Gauntlet at Harvest Hill Farm. The night was going well, we were enjoying one cheap scare after another. Until, suddenly the ride in front of us tumbled down a hill and rolled over. I don't recall thinking at all,…

One night Lynse, Sophia, Macy, and I were hanging out. It was around 10 o'clock when we decided to go outside and jump on the trampoline. When we got out there we were having so much fun. We were doing flips and playing games, just doing our normal thing. After awhile all of a sudden, we all heard this noise. Right, next to Lynses house there is woods and cornfields so it made it more creepy. Then we all looked by her shed and we saw this huge shadow. We didn't know what it was but our first instinct was that it was a cat but it wasn't. Again it made this noise and we knew that it was a raccoon. We all went to grab our phones to call her dad but we forgot that we had put them under the trampoline for light since it was so light. We were all nervous to get…

It had taken many decades to create the home they lived in now, when the first ancestors stumbled upon this beauty. And now it was Tatiana of House Astor, daughter of King Issac home.…

I was eleven. It was one summer morning around 8:30, when my mother, siblings, and I woke up early for a walk to the store around the corner to use some coupons that were to be used only that day. In line for about half an hour, my vision got muddy all of a sudden. Seconds later, my eyes vastly floated into a gaze of never-stopping kaleidoscopes. I woke up with my family in panic and with unfamiliar faces observing me. I looked up and saw a lady on the phone, on the line with paramedics as my mother and brother rushed to say “he’s awake now”. Strangers approached me fanning heavily with thick newspaper. Embarrassed, I wanted to hide so I shriveled up into a ball and leaned back onto a wall. Oh how I wished I was blown away by those gusts.…

It felt as if the bed of the pickup truck was having convulsions underneath my feet. As the driver navigated the ruts and turns of the roads in Guaimaca, Honduras, water from the 2,000 gallon black tank sloshed over us as we were thrown about against the metal cage that kept us from falling out of the back of the pickup truck like Raggedy Ann dolls. Gradually, our girlish shrieks ceased as we were mesmerized by this strange new world. The truck stopped, and out of nowhere dozens of women and children appeared and surrounded us, carrying any container they could find, buckets, plastic water bottles and bleach containers. We filled up each one. Although we could not understand one another, we spoke instead with the language of smiles. We did this over and over again, stopping in new places until our tank was empty. Once back in the truck, we threaded our way back to the mission base where we were staying.…

It was a Friday night. The full moon was shining through the bare branches making scary shadows on our path as we walked. A cool light wind was blowing sending leaves dancing noisily in the forest floor. I remember thinking to myself that the night, was the scariest night ever, and I wanted to ask Scott to go back and take the long way through the road, but I was afraid that he would laugh at me and make jokes about me for being scared of the dark.…

After a long day of traveling one thousand miles from Tucson, Arizona to Salem, Oregon, I was finally settled in my room. It was nicer then I expected it to be, no bars on the windows at least. As I first entered the room there were closets to the right, a bathroom, which I now shared with three other girls, to the left. At the end of the short hallway it…

As the car got a bit near, it seemed to be an injured man. As fast as a jaguar, the car had lost its control. Mom couldn’t apply brakes. It looked as if an accident is going to take place. The car stopped making a dreadful noise. We looked back there was no one. Mom got off the car. Looked around. What was it? Was it a zombie? Or really a man? We were truly scared. My heart was beating like anything. We reached home-safe and sound. What happened that night nobody knows. We didn’t share this incident with anyone. It was forgotten and considered only a rainy…
