House Astor: A Short Story
Home.

Her pack had lived here for centuries. What had once been a beautiful empty cavern, was now an even more beautiful city, carved into the rock and crystals of the cave, fashioned around a clear pool of water that spread to the rock's edge, crashing over in gorgeous waterfall's. It had taken many decades to create the home they lived in now, when the first ancestors stumbled upon this beauty. And now it was Tatiana of House Astor, daughter of King Issac home.

She knew every stone road carved between the shops and homes. She knew every secret path, every hall within the walls of the cavern. Only a portion of the city remained in the cavern. More was built into the walls, pathways to get across the city, underneath it, or above it. They had centuries to build their magnificent city, including the palace that had been carved in the

The doors to the palace rarely opened unless they were having guests, or were opening the palace to their people, their clan. Tatiana slipped through and thanked them, then strode off.

She needed no guard, nor no weapon. She was a werewolf, of pure royal blood. At her command any in her clan would bend to her will, as she was Alphaborn. Meaning she was her father's daughter, and heir to his throne. But even without this stature, Tatiana was a strong willed wolf, and let no one bully her. As she stepped through the streets many bowed or wished her a well morning, all recognizing her for the princess she was. She never halted in her steps though, leaving passing words of thanks as she walked by. The young wolf was on a mission, and she knew her time was limited.

Stepping up to a store front, she smiled at the sign before stepping in, the door creaking open. There was one person she could not go without seeing, one of the few in this clan that saw her for just Tatiana, not for the royal blood pumping through her

The Donna J. Seifert and Joseph Balicki’s article, Mary Ann Hall's House, discusses about the archaeological investigations conducted at two vacant lots located at a proposed building site for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. In the archaeological investigations, the archaeologists discovered material remains associated with a mid-nineteenth brothel called Mary Ann Hall’s (Seifert and Balicki 2005:59). In addition to the discovery of the brothel, the archaeologists also discovered other households from the mid-nineteenth century that were built around the same time as the brothel. The two excavation sites provides an interesting case study in North American historical archaeology because, archaeologists working…

The house on 93 Little Hobart Street is a small, broken down home to a family of six. The steps leading to the front deck have holes in them and look dangerous for the smaller child to walk on. There is no working electricity or plumbing, with holes in the roof, making the entire house freezing cold at night. Four children live in this house with both parents, still married. The youngest of them is Maureen who is eight years old, Brian, the second youngest, is twelve, Jeannette is thirteen, and Lori, the oldest, is sixteen. All of the children have raggedy, worn-down clothing, with crazy, nappy hair. They all are extremely thin due to the lack of food in the house, and seem to not have bathed in an extended amount of time.…

With the barrel of her musket propped firmly on the limb of a tree, Charity took steady aim at the deer. The medium-sized buck was grazing at the edge of a thicket of wax myrtles, near where she saw the deer tracks the day before. John and Uriah were squatting in the bushes behind her. She had brought them along to help with the bleeding out of the deer, should she kill one, and to help carry it back to camp. They could then dress it out and help her prepare the meat for making jerky and so forth. She also hoped to can some of the meat so that it would last a lot longer. She was glad that Nancy had shown her how and taught her how to preserve food in glass jars- it was much better than having to dry it all into tough leather strips… Taking careful aim, Charity squeezed the trigger, while saying a quick prayer that the bullet would hit its mark. She was worried that she wasn't close enough to the deer, but if she had tried to get any closer, it would have seen her and ran off into the woods.…

The old barn was gloomy, but the light of the sun came gleaming in through the cracks of the barn, and made the straw glimmer like little tiny bits of gold. The shingles were in disrepair, however, the structure was sturdy, and the wood that surrounded it was worn with age, but it gave it character. Similarly, hay covered the floor as if it was a shield from danger. Hulga stood in the middle of the barn with her hands on her hips, looking toward the posterior of the barn at the ladder leading up to the loft romanticizing about Pointer and how their passions will ignite. Comparatively, hay covered the floor of the loft which set the prospect of love like a candle lit room. As well as, there being no animals in the barn which gave it a look of…

Jane Addams was undoubtedly one of the most influential and prominent female figures in the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. She single handedly changed the face of social reform among poor immigrants living in Chicago during this time period, and was also regarded as a catalyst for influencing positive community relationships between the poor and the wealthy. Although she was the centerpiece of numerous other reforms during this time, her progressive-era ideals on social reform policies and arguments over immigration, labor unions, women’s rights, Americanization, and government regulations revolving around the Hull House in Chicago may stand out most prominently. Addams consistently argued about themes ranging from women’s reforms and women’s activism, to immigrant workforce conditions and violent crimes of the settlement houses. But her agenda on Americanization and integration of the poor immigrants living in the Hull House were the most highly debated and critiqued, as many of these settlement housing programs encouraged and favored Americanization and integration among its residents, essentially squashing the “old world” cultures of the immigrants. But Addams’s settlement house, Hull House, had a much different approach regarding Americanization, integration, and the immigrant’s cultural background. The Hull House was not a medium for Americanization amongst the immigrants, but rather laid a foundation to encourage the immigrants to embrace and conserve their cultures.…

Her blouse was gone, replaced by a simple black dress. As soon as she got up to look around, she noticed that the environment around her was entirely different than that of the drive-in restuarant or her house. The sky was black, encompassed by large glowing rings of what looked to be ancient texts, and on its horizon was a rather large-looking moon. Connie felt oddly calm in this place, the red grass contrasted nicely with the dark sky. As she scanned her surrounding she found a path leading down.…
