This book includes several investigations of America’s most shocking crimes, in which Emily Craig takes you behind the scenes of real-life cases. Dr. Emily Craig, is a forensic anthropologist for the state of Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office. She was the author of this spectacular book. Emily’s job was to examine bones, fragments of extremities, and burned human remains, to help determine how people died, who they were, and sometimes even what they looked like (which is what they often had to do). Emily is one of the best forensic anthropologists in the country, and has helped identify many murder victims and solve hundreds of cold cases. Male man, maybe Hispanic, minimum of 30 years old, around six feet tall, has had to have dental work including a gold crown, dead over six months. Little did Craig and her team of investigators know that a mother had reported over 1,250 miles away that her 34 year old son had went missing. More seasons went by, then one day in October of 2000, Detective Jim Griffin state police officer, learned that a man just arrested for a slight crime wanted to talk about one of his old cases, (the creek-bed body). The detective was doubtful, having wasted years of time listening to lies. He just wanted to meet the man, to be sure that he was the last resort. The source said he was awakened one night in July 1998 by two nervous acquaintances saying they needed his help. With fear, he felt there was no way out. He then helped them carry a wrapped body out of a farmhouse and into a van. They took a long ride, and then joined in dumping the body in a creek. The detective knew right then that when the man mentioned the Mickey Mouse blanket that was wrapped around the body, he knew he was telling the truth. The truth quickly came out and there were two men and one female charged with first degree murder. They had planned to kill this man for his cocaine. The three convicts were sentenced to life

The forensic aspect of the Pamela Foddrill case made the differences between the theory and the reality of criminal investigation very apparent. When Foddrill’s body was found in December of 1995, the cause of death was originally ruled as violent trauma, indicated by the “broken and splintered nasal bones and fractures to her neck” (Course 69). A few years later, forensic pathologist Scott Wagner said that Foddrill’s injuries, while harmful, were probably not fatal, and the cause of death was changed to blunt force…

Another victim, Linda Salee, was abducted and raped and murdered at the same workshop. He dumped her body in the river. The difference with Salee’s case is that her body was the first to be discovered by the police. A strange knot on the nylon rope was used to tie her body to a car part to weigh her down. The Police Department of Alamance County had never seen a victim so composed, so determined and so sure. Just a few hours after her horrifying ordeal, after the emotionless doctor swabbed her vagina for semen samples at the hospital, Jennifer sat down at the police station with Detective Mike Gauldin. "The first comment I remember her making was that, “I'm going to get this guy that did this to me.” She said, “I took the time to look at him. I will be able to identify him if I'm given an opportunity," Gauldin remembered her saying (Hansen, 2001). She began combing through photos, trying to help come up with a composite of her rapist.…

July 8, 1982, I murdered my first victim. Her name was Wendy Lee Coffield. She was only 16, just a runaway, probably dropped out of school. I strangled it with it’s own clothes. I dumped the body in the Green River. Like my favored outdoor sexual spots, these were some of the locations I also dumped these objects, what I like to refer to these outcast women as. Also in the Green River was the body of Debra Lynn Bonner, 23, Marcia Faye Chapman, 31, Cynthia Jean Hinds, 17, Opal Charmaine Mills, 16, Tracy Winston, 19.…

Doctor of philosophy Diane Wysocki also felt, Jacobs was very worried about telling her story because she did not want the people she was working for to know she was writing. Jacobs knew that if they found out she was writing about them that she would be killed and her work would not see the light of day. So, writing secretly and at night, Jacobs completed Incidents where she was both candid and emotional about the sexual abuse, harassment, and total control of slave women by their masters. So when she decided to publish the book in 1861 she used a fictional name which was Linda Brent so the name wouldn’t trace back to her. Contemporary feminist researchers can use narrative work "to develop feminist theory, express affinity and admiration for other women, contribute to social justice, facilitate understanding among social classes, and explore the meaning of events in the eyes of women”.…

The cuts were not quite clean, a little ragged at the edges, and the bones seemed to have been cut part way through and snapped the rest. The head of the corpse seemed to be missing an eye. the blood had pooled underneath the remains. The remains themselves did not seem to be rotted in any way, leading us to believe the mutilation had taken place recently. Due to the state of blood, i estimate the act was done less than two hours before our arrival.…

Despite living with her every move being discussed by the townsfolk of Jefferson, nobody really knows Miss Emily at all. During the end of her life, no one except her servant had been inside of her home “in at least ten years”(1). Therefore, Emily’s public persona is derived mainly from clandestine sightings, many of which are extrapolated on like a game of telephone. From the perspective of the townsfolk, Emily undergoes many shifts of image at each turning point in her life. At first she is “slender figure in white” (26), at the mercy of her oppressive father. After her father passes and she is left penniless, she is “a girl, with a vague resemblance to those angels in coloured church windows” (30), innocent and naive. Next, after meeting…

I would say one of my favorite memories with Emily is probably driving around town and driving through the graveyard on Beck Road. I remember we pulled in and as I kept going we swore we weren’t scared and then the road turned into gravel and the exit gate was locked so we had to do a U-turn in the middle of the graveyard. All I know is that I ended up screaming and speeding out.…
