Emperial Dreams Essay

The movie Emperial Dreams is about a young man who returns home from jail wanting to take care of his son and fulfill his dream of becoming a writer. With a living in Emperial, a crime ridden neighborhood, poverty and the flawed system of America, he is prevented from doing so. Emperial dreams shows the life of a lower class black individual trying to make it without any illegal doings. This film had expanded my view of the world and myself. The way I view the world was influenced by this film because it showed me what life can really be like. The world is a hard place to live in regardless of social status or skin tone, but once you add these factors, your life can change for better or worse. In Emperial Dreams the corrupt system is shown when in order for the main character to get a job he needs a license and to get a license he needs to pay off his child support he couldn't pay while in jail. To pay off the child support he needs to needs money but where is he supposed to get money from without being able to get a job. A life of criminal work could get him the money he needs to provide for his son and the life that was trying to be changed wouldn't be given any other choice but to adapt to the ways of the streets. A vicious cycle just continues over and over again not to be changed. If one should choose not to succumb to the ways of the streets then poverty continues and they are hurt from doing the right thing and can become stuck in the low class life they were given without a way to climb to the top. Being in poor leads to being homeless, and someone who is homeless without income isn't stable to be a parent and those with children have them taken away from them. It is nearly impossible to survive in this world as a lower class black individual or any other mistreated race, and that's what Emperial Dreams has shown me. My view on the world is that it is
