Enemy And Flint Play Summary
The play being discussed in this critique is “Enemy and Flint”. The play is about a bright young medical student by the name of Thia Stockmann. She has discovered her town’s water supply has been poisoned. Her data, personality and determination offended her family, then the town council, and finally the community. As her friends and her allies buckled under the pressure, she becomes even more committed to doing what was right and accepted her fate as "an enemy of the people" in the intersection of Ibsen's classic play and the Flint water crisis. “Enemy and Flint” I attended the performance at Rio Hondo College on April 29, 2018 in the Wray Theater, and was directed by Julianna Ojeda. The performance was in a proscenium setting. Before the play started, they showed us nature on a slide show and, at 2:03 p.m., I was still waiting for the play to start. As I was waiting, one of the professor’s came onto the stage and he introduced himself, stating that we’re the fourth audience that are looking at the show. As the show begins, it was showing us …show more content…
They started fighting so badly Cate has to stop them. Another thing I disliked is Pete, Thia’s brother, Holly the reporter, Ace, and others who are against Thia. During one scene of the play, they trash Thia’s house and throws pebbles at her house, and her landlord sends a letter to kick them out of the house because many people keep breaking the property, and what I dislike was the actors did not project there voice loud enough and I was sitting on the third row, and still I was still having problem hearing the play. Some actors and actress was mumbling throughout the play. One Character I don’t like was Ace because of his superior and his self centered personality by that I mean he thinks about himself and saying he is charming, handsome, and

The different characters have there on depth in the play, and they have their own battles to deal with, changing racial attitudes in America was something I really learned from the play. Russ is more the protagonist in the play, he and Bev are the married couple who is moving out the neighborhood and Karl is the antagonist he's totally against a black family moving into the community of Clybourne Park. The language was vernacular, it was everyday language .Everyone is rambling speaking over one another in act 2 which I was not pleased with, act 1 was stronger to make this play great as it already…

by Arthur Miller, societal conduct is violated and a community is capsized. In this socially awakening play, society is corrupted when a naivete community is immersed in power that enables insignificant people to manipulate the status quo to selfishly satisfy their own societal welfare and relationships. In times of distress, an individual may blindly diminish their societal relationships to consequentially benefit themselves. Once presented with power, Abigail takes advantage of it to manipulate those around her and accuse innocent people at will. When caught in the woods with Tituba and the other girls,…

My overall reaction and view of the play is that I was very impressed. I have not seen a play with more action and liveliness with such a small group of roles in a rather long time. The connection between royalty, and a con man, as he slips into the cracks and seems of reality and an overall search of competence in a family setting is very intense in accordance to the time line set in the play. I felt like I was with the actors, on their spiritual journey, as they portray their roles so finely. I felt an extreme presence of finite maturity in the actors, and I feel as if that has a lasting impact, compared to mediocre actors, in which I’ve seen in this theatre before. The all black cast was so…

All the elements in the show went perfectly with the actors, the sets, and the lighting. The whole stage was used and the performers moved around throughout the entire stage. The pace of the production seemed to be right. I thought it might have dragged out a little but picked up in the secound act.…

To be completely honest, I would have to say that majority of the acting was very mediocre. I know it wasn’t supposed to be like something off of Broadway but I expected a lot more, and I felt like only a couple of actors came through with that. The acting was not terrible, but it wasn’t spectacular either. I felt like some characters were not putting their all into their characters. I also felt like some people should not have been casted into the roles they had received. Many times a background character would outshine a main character during the performance. Pertaining to the acting, I think that the fact that it was a musical added more stress to the actors which consequently could have placed a strain on their acting abilities. This is because they were most likely more concerned with their vocals. Something I did like in their acting was the fact that they used little children, I found that very adorable.…

They play was quite an interesting play with its use of comedy and tragedy. The actors did a terrific job on portraying the characters. The set was small so it was much easier to see their reactions. The introduction to the play was pretty unique with those people in tight pants and glitter all over everybody in the lobby. They never broke character no matter what went on in the lobby. Later they used as prompts on stage which was pretty interesting because at times I was so into the play I forgot they were there acting as a car or a door.…

There were some things that I didn’t like about the play. One of the characters portrayed a rebellious girl who wore dark clothes and heavy makeup. She was the one who was hooking up with the professor and her friend. She kept blinking her eyes too much and moving her head to try to look as if she was being seductive. I understand that in order to portray a seductive character some of those gestures would work well. I think the actor over did it, and I found it distracting to watch her keep doing the robotic gestures even when…

In my opinion, the most successful aspect in this play was the actresses, not just because they were good, but rather because they were incredibly believable. I did not feel that I was watching actors on the stage, rather that I was watching the lives of the six individuals unfold. They became their characters. A perfect example of this can be seen when Sabrina Hyman, who was playing the part of Truvy, was decorating the salon for Christmas and had to improv. While placing tinsel on the couch she was unable to keep it on the desired spot, because it kept falling off of the arm. Initially when she realized that the tinsel was not staying in its place she did not panic, as one would have thought. Instead she simply tried again, and then even a third time without showing any signs of a problem, she had to finally walk away without properly placing the tinsel where it should have been. This quick change in events did not throw her off in the least; she played it off like nothing was wrong. She played it off, as Truvy Jones would have in real life. Although I did feel that the acting in the play was truly amazing I did have two problems, and a couple of instances where I was given a…

Overall, I thought the play was fantastic. I enjoyed the dark atmosphere that the director created that helped enhance the plot and mood of the play. I also appreciated the great deal of work and effort the actors had to put in, to present a play written in a different form of english. The actresses that played the witches did an excellent job portraying the insanity and mysterious values of the witches. I also thought the Porter did a great job, as he brought some much needed comic relief the play. To be quite honest, I can’t think of any characters that didn’t give a good performance. From what I saw, no characters messed up lines, cues or made errors that had an impact on the outcome of the play.…

I found the timing of this production was just right; however I thought the end of the play was somewhat dragged on, and could have ended earlier than it did. Although the homosexual scenes were rather disturbing, I would have to say they were my favourite scenes, because it was humorous, and extremely clever. The use of shadow puppets was extraordinary, and…

My first reaction to this play was restricted because of the lack of my open mindedness. This would happen to be my first and only play I have ever seen or even thought of seeing. I didn’t expect much but as it started it began to catch my attention and make me actually want to listen and take in the purpose and meaning of this particular act. Having not knowing what other plays are like, I thought this one was pretty cool because the stage was the center of attention with audiences on both sides. Overall I was very impressed on the actors’ performances. Father Flynn the supposed molester, Ms. Muller the mother of the young boy, the only African American boy in the school, Sister James the young teacher whom likes Father Flynn, and Sister Aloysius who thinks he’s a molester.…
