My heart was racing, palms sweating, anyone could sense my nervous energy as I walked into Professor Roth’s 1301 English class. Writing has never been my area of expertise and I often struggle with proper grammar. Professor Roth has helped me improve my writing tremendously in the short eight-week span we have been in class. I have gained knowledge of the writing process, improved my sentence-level writing skills, and collaboratively worked with fellow classmates to achieve common goals. Over the eight weeks, I have acquired substantial fundamental aspects of writing in English 1301. Writing is an interactive process and there is always room for improving.

One example of this was the peer review. Reading one another’s opinions and seeing different writing styles helped me to expand my thinking. We were all writing about the same topic, but the array of differences was amazing. Sometimes an individual doesn’t get a point that someone else has; this helped me to see things from another person’s view. The peer review also made you think on a more critical level, finding those hidden grammar errors in the text. Another way we worked together was in a debate. It was awesome to hear everyone’s ideas about one topic, and try and persuade the classmates you had the right answer’s. There were no right or wrong answers, however, the feedback was interesting to hear. This was my favorite activity we did as a class. It’s important to keep interaction following in the classroom, so we can learn and grow as a class not just as individuals.
In conclusion, English 1301 has positively influenced my writing skills. My learning experience has surpassed my expectations for myself as an individual. I learned the writing process, enhanced my writing skills, and successfully worked as a class to achieve writing goals.
