The world was becoming a big entangled web of connected people communicating through mass media that is getting denser and denser every day. Celebrating the 10th year of Cinemalaya Film Festival, Thop Nazareno with his second short film “Eyeball” presented a vain man who is out to meet women he meets on social networking site known as Facebook. While waiting for a woman he is about to meet in the bus terminal, he comes upon a naïve guy whom he teaches his ways on attracting women, turned to be the person he was about to meet. But the vain may need to learn more lessons, he was killed by him.
Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and other competitions seek to discover, encourage, and honor cinematic works of Filipino film makers that bodily articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity according to Cinemalaya Foundation site. The short film “Eyeball” mirrored a scenario that is common and can be easily related by most Filipinos who are using Facebook and cellular phones in meeting random people in and across the globe. The movie portrayed the main character as a person who is out to meeting random women for the sake of satisfying sexual pleasures. The cinematography of the film captured scenes that are both distinct and powerful in the way they drive the narration of the story. Its direction also reflected the creativeness of the director in choosing places and sound effects and in showcasing the talent of the actors.
