Because They’re Worth It!
It takes hard work, commitment and sacrifice to reach the top

To succeed at the top of one’s game is no stroll in the park. These so called ‘stars’ of our day are not paid for doing nothing. These celebrities have had to dedicate the best part of their lives from an early age to reach the heights of elitism they are able to enjoy today. Do you really believe the sporting likes of Steven Gerrard or Usain Bolt achieved their levels of success by coincidence or luck? No! It has taken years of hard work, commitment and personal sacrifice to arrive at their current celebrity status.

‘Practice makes perfect.’ This statement could be applied to the ways in which our ‘stars’ of today have to rehearse or train continually in their area of expertise, whether that be acting, singing, playing an instrument or playing a sport. It takes total focus on targets set, a steeliness not to give up when times are tough, courage and self-belief to continue when others around you lose faith in what you are trying to achieve and stubbornness to overcome hurdles such as suffering an injury or major setback when progressing down the long, bumpy, rollercoaster road to success.

An excellent example of someone who has spent many years training to reach the top of their selected field is Jessica Ennis. She has shown all of the above mentioned qualities to reach the pinnacle of her career when winning her gold medal in the 2012 Olympics. Many obstacles were placed between Jessica and the goals she had set herself and her ultimate dreams of winning medals. A serious injury excluded her from competing in the 2008 Olympics, an event she had trained tirelessly for over many years. To have the strength to continue and not give up under such difficult and testing circumstances in my opinion, she deserves all the media attention, success, sponsorship and financial rewards she is

The theme of the story “A&P” is “always weigh your consequences before taking actions”. The formal aspects used by the author to develop the story were symbolism, point of view, and setting. A&P written by John Updike first published in 1961 is about, the narrator, Sammy who is checking groceries when he realizes that three barefoot girls in bathing suits have walked into the store. The leader of the three, who has her bathing suit straps down, catches his eye. Most lessons in life are bitter-sweet, and so are many knowledgeable women. Aunt Alexandra in To Kill A Mockingbird portrays this very well. However, the performer is responsible for bringing that to life. The performer is receptive of artistic and expressive interpretations. A simple tap move with a four bar count can motivate others to create a dozen different expressive variations. When I finally performed on stage, I outpoured my excitement and uneasiness on that stage. I cherished every minute of it. I imagined objects, feelings, and people in my mind as I performed for Rosie’s Theatre Kids. I was no longer rehearsing for a singular performance. I realized I was rehearsing for life. The lessons learned on this journey helped mature and facilitate my transition into a confident young…

Athletes have always been at the center of popular culture, they are looked up to as idols and representations of human perfection. While athletes entertain us as spectators, they have become too large for their own good. William Moller, the author, has shown solid facts and engaging social commentary that brings the public to support his claim of how athletes are held too high in today’s society. Moller argues that athletes may be held too high as a community, but he is not bashing them in a negative way.…

#1 I found that I had mixed feelings as to if the Reconstruction was a splendid failure or not so I did some research. The Reconstruction is surrounded by controversy. Eric Froner asserts that the Reconstruction did not achieve the radical goals that were hoped for but the Reconstruction did offer African Americans in the south a vison of a free society even if only temporarily. Historians have categorized the Reconstruction as a total failure and that failure proved to be detrimental to both blacks and whites. Both Northern and Southern historians wrote about the Reconstruction and were fascinated by it for two reasons, the first being that they believed that the south was…

When it comes to sports, every team is filled with different talents, and each person brings a different work ethic to the table. You don’t have to be an athlete to understand that there are four different types of players: the complete natural, the hard worker, the lazy, and the untalented. Any of these players can be trained to improve, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the player as to how much they’re willing to work for the sport.…
