In her article "College Is a Waste of Time and Money", Caroline Bird attempts to pursued her readers that colleges are overflowing with students who don't belong there. Her article first appeared in Psychology Today (May 1975). Since this material is outdated, I find it hard to believe that most of the responses by students and parents quoted in the article still hold true. The author has set out to pursue the readers that college is a bad and unnecessary choice for today's youth. Yet the author holds a bachelors and a masters degree from two different universities. I would think that if she thought college was really a bad choice and a waste of time and money, she would not have gone back to get her masters degree.…

Have you changed since you started college? “Does Coming to College Mean Becoming Someone New?” by Kevin Davis talks about his journey through college and how the school system made him hate what he thought he loved. The question arose in his article: do you become someone different when you arrive at college? Through my experience here at SUNY Oswego for the first year, I would say you definitely learn to think differently when it comes to your major. This is not always a bad thing, in fact, it’s a positive benefit. Thinking differently and more critically about things helps you grow as a person. Myself being a broadcasting major, watching TV is very hard for me now. Coming to college changes your outlook on your major or field, yourself and even life in general.…
Leaving from home and exploring ones own dreams are a very important part of maturing. Though, the physical separation from home is for some a difficult transition to college life. What are those things one takes for granted while living at home, and attending high school? What changes does one face upon entering college?

Just think of all the times the alarm clock did not go off, and mom was there to make sure school was still reached on time. When the alarm clock fails to go off at college, then the first class of the day is simply missed. At home breakfast is made to order: eggs, bacon, pancakes, or even French toast. In college one finds a particular meal that is edible, and must stick with it. A cabinet could be opened at home and…

My future has been alluded to since I was a very young girl. Most five year olds are infatuated with their toys. Some are interested in battery operated interactive ones, while others are attracted to colorful ones that require a great dose of imagination. Still others are happy with sedentary objects that require no more involvement than merely sitting and observing. I like to believe that I was different.…
I wanted to share some thoughts with my network as I transition from the military as these ideas are fresh in my mind, and I have ample time to reflect on as this chapter of my life as it concludes. Many service members like myself start their military careers without definitive direction on if their career goals are going to be either short or long term. I was the indecisive Airman, and there are thousands of servicemembers now who are as I once was. And during my transition hiring managers and recruiters have made me feel that my search of where I belong to my organization has impacted my transition to the civilian sector. I didn't start off with ambitious goals; I wanted to master my craft before I could visualize future roles and ranks, and even while learning my role as an…
With a college degree being as needed as it is, it is incredibly expensive to get one. Studies show that many high school graduates that do attend college, attend that following year bringing the colleges plenty of money. After doing some math, the numbers suggest that in general most colleges are bringing in plenty of extra money with an average 5.3 million dollars of profit. This is something that majorly hurts students financially who are just trying to get a college degree, which will be in turn used to essentially get themselves a well-paying career so they can pay back what they spent to get their college degree in the first place.…
Thirteen years of my life have been spent in a public schooling program. From the day I stepped foot into my high school, teachers were constantly reminding me about how college was right around the corner and I needed to start applying. In the beginning of my senior year, I became mesmerized at the fact that I only understand life with the aspect of public school being involved. I obviously don’t remember my life as an infant and the earliest memory I have is of me making the transition from preschool to kindergarten. My job, extracurriculars, and my social life are all based off of my public school schedule and being that college is next year, my life is going to be modified in a way that is unimaginable. College means more independence…

Do you believe that college is for everyone? The article “Is College for Everyone” was written by Pharinet. It is located on the website AssociatedContent.com. Pharinet states her opinion that college is not for everyone. She explains the challenges of receiving a higher education. Now days individuals are expected to receive an education beyond high school. People believe you have to attend college to earn a degree for a brighter and successful future. Pharinet suggest, “Higher education is not the key to happiness and success for everyone.” Reasons for attending college differ depending on the person. Some people find college to be a little out of their price range. However, some people just do not wish to learn anymore. There are many people in this world that do not have the patience or responsibility to take on the college life. Maybe some people do not attend college because they are not mature enough to understand the work given to them. Pharinet’s argument gives me a huge amount of detail as to why she believes college is not for everyone. She confirms this by providing her audience and I with many examples backing up her argument. Her article is very effective and does a wonderful job with stating reasons why college is not for everyone. I chose this article because I strongly agree with the author’s opinion.…

“Morning mum, aren’t you meant to be at work today, it’s Saturday? Stefan Questioned, “Not today” his mum replies with a small grin “today is my day off, I feel like… shopping” she says “oh sweet, can you take Ana with you, so I can hang out with Luka and Jamey at the beach, after all she would love to go shopping with you?” asked Stefan with his fingers crossed and trying to put on a persuasive tone and a pleading face “Sure, but I want you to be extra careful, punt on your sunscreen, cross the roads safely and STAY AWAY from the rocks on the beach, Understand?”, “yeah I know, you’ve told me like, a million times” Stefan replies.…
