In Los Angeles, California, the author Sonia Nazario, was at her home

when her maid, Maria Del Carmen Ferrez and her began talking about

children, and Sonia learned that Maria had four children still living in

Guatemala. Carmen’s story began after her husband left her for another

woman and she decided to travel to the United States to have a more

successful life. Carmen embarked on a journey north, eventually

arriving in Los Angeles, where she found work and sends money and

clothes to her children back in Guatemala, but feels very emotional due

to her forced separation from her children in order to have a better life.

A year later, Carmen learned that her son Minor, had arrived in Los

about this story, and started to research the journeys that people

traveling from Central America and Mexico endured in order to come to

Gregorio Cortez was born on a ranch on June 22, 1875 between Reynosa and Matamoros on the Mexican side of the river. He then relocated to Manor, Texas and a couple of years later he began working in a farm in Karnes and Gonzales counties. As we can see Gregorio Cortez is an ordinary man in an “ordinary world” just trying to survive and have a decent life. His “call to adventure” came when Sheriff Morris questioned Mexicans about a stolen horse, thus Gregorio was approached and questioned about the situation. Everything was going smoothly until the interpreter misunderstood Gregorio’s reply by failing to identify that in Mexican Culture there is a distinction between a horse (caballo) and mare (yegua). Gregorio said he never traded a horse…

I am reading Enrique's JOURNEY and throughout the start of the book Enrique was carefree, even in his life of poverty. He let his anger consume him and this made him interact with family in a very rude way. Though as his journey truly begins he welcomes the company of other, but he learns soon that, that is a mistake as he is deported, roobed and, beaten by lowlifes and cops. By Enrique's fifth journey he has reacted to anyone with caution, fear, and yet all in a way that makes him at times seem ether pitiful or strong. I do not undertsnad why the Author did this, I can only assume it was to express teenage emotions mixed with all the terrible things (and good) that have happened to him.…

I know that this was the hardest decision she probably ever had to make. She was so in love with her daughter, and they had such a close bond, I have no idea how she was able to leave her behind. If I were her, I think I would had have to come up with a way, so both my daughter and I could travel to America. Honestly, I would have tried to find a legal way, so my daughter and I would have a safer life in a country legally. Now I know that in the lower income countries, it is harder to come to America legally, but I know it can be done. I would have rather had safety and be able to live in America as an American one day, so my daughter could have a better life, and my grandchildren and great grandchildren, can continue to have a wonderful life in…
