Located in Morongo Valley, lies a vast, exquisite place of unique wildlife and plants known as the Big Morongo Valley Preserve, which is tasked with promoting plant and endangered species growth. Since I’ve hiked the preserve previously, this will be a great experience to help with the preservation of the preserve. So I chose my project on September 7th to be the Morongo Preserve. On September 15, I read in the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Fall 2017 newsletter that volunteers are needed to help with the restoration of the preserve for National Public Lands Day. I decided on that day to be a part of that. Therefore, on September 30th, I will show up and help with whatever job I am assigned. Once I am done with the assigned job, I will evaluate the work …show more content…
performed and ascertain if the work done truly helped the environment. By November 14th, I have written my report on my project and what I did in the preserve. The environment will be helped by my project for many reasons. The restoration of paths will prevent people from walking into plant life. Signs will prevent people hiking from getting lost. Trash cleanup will prevent animals from eating foods that may kill them. Fences can help prevent animals from getting into certain areas of the preserve. I expect to learn several factors about my personal relationship with the environment.
I expect I can gain insight on different techniques on how to properly recycle, reuse or dispose of waste. I expect to work with others who share my same goals. I expect I will enjoy the beauty of the preserve more in the future. With a cleaner preserve, I expect I might see more animal life while hiking.
My health will be improved from this project. For one, with little trash around plant life can flourish more, which means there is more oxygen available to breathe, which helps me. If there is proper signage, I can hike longer distances without getting lost. A clean preserve is a place I will be able to hike and walk, which is beneficial to my health. If more people are at the preserve, this means there is more opportunities for me bike riding elsewhere, which is good for my health. I will come across problems in my project. A tool I might need may not be available or it might break. If this happens, I can go to a preserve official and get the tool replaced. Another issue might be getting dehydrated. To prevent this from happening, I will come prepared with extra bottles in my
backpack. During my project, I will be aware of certain safety issues. Since this is physical work, I will come prepared with proper clothing and footwear. Since it is outside, I will wear sunscreen and insect repellant. I will drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. I will be prepared to wear protective gloves for any repair work needed.
In conclusion, my project is National Public Lands Day at the Morongo Preserve. This project will help the environment, and help my personal relationship with the environment.
