Introduction
The automotive industry can play a major role in reducing pollution. Over the years, many guidelines and laws have been introduced. Minimising the environmental impact at the workplace can be challenging but in long term, improving environmental performance can reduce operating costs and yield other benefits such as cleaner and a safer environment for all of us.
Today however, there are countless workplaces that are reluctant to follow these regulations. There are key aspects of the environmental impact regarding automotive industry, such as;
1. Pollutants entering waterways or storm water drains.
2. Soil and groundwater pollution.
3. Air pollution.
4. Greenhouse gas emissions.
5. Waste management.
6. Noise pollution.
This report will discuss the guidelines, safety measures and the laws and regulations that have been introduced in the automotive industry, to both employer and employees, in order to minimise the impact on our environment.

1 Research and list employer and employees responsibilities in complying with environmental regulations in the mechanical repair industry.
Employer’s responsibilities:
Regularly service workshop equipment.
Check your compressed air systems for leaks and fix them. Leaks make compressors run unnecessarily and result in higher electricity use.
Provide a well-ventilated work area. (use exhaust extractors etc)
Install energy-efficient lights at the workplace and switch them off when they are not required.
Fit water efficient fixtures where possible.
Install rainwater tanks for car washing, housekeeping and toilet flushing.
Consider using less toxic chemicals.
Recycle oil, solvents, coolants and fuel filters, etc.
