Equality 7-2521: Right Or Wrong?
It may be a sin, but it can grant great freedom. Equality 7-2521 sinned. He re-created electricity and made the mistake of showing his invention to the council. But, instead of destroying the contraption like the council demanded, he took off into the Unmarked forest. Strangely, he did not feel like he did anything wrong. He was right to not feel any wrong doing because he did not do anything wrong.
Generally when someone thinks of sinning, they would usually think of the bible. Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit. Equality sinned by re-creating electricity. They both acted against the law, but was Equality really wrong? A lot of people have broken the law, only some have done it for the good of humanity. What if he is one of those people? Equality had no intent of harming anyone, he wanted to help his society. Is it wrong that he felt no wrong doing for doing something right?
The dictionary definition of sin is ‘an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.’ A few synonyms are ‘an act of evil or wickedness; wrongdoing; and crime’. If you ask me, that’s the complete opposite of evil.

I know I

Equality doesn’t except the moral teachings of society. In fact he does man things to go against it. He even admits in the novel that he really doesn’t care. “and yet there is no shame in us and no regret. We say to ourselves that we are a wretch and a traitor. But we feel no burden upon our spirit and no fear in our heart. And it seems to us that our spirit is clear as a lake troubled by no eyes save those of the sun. And in our heart there is the peace we have known in twenty years.” This is an excerpt from the end of chapter one that shows although Equality knows that he has committed sins he is at peace even in his wrong…

Cornelius Plantinga Jr. defines sin as “a disruption of created harmony and then resistance to divine restoration of that harmony” and says “sin disrupts and resists the vital human relation to God, and it does all this disruption and resisting in a number of intertwined ways”(Plantinga). He seems to believe that anything that goes against creation, what is known as anti-creation, is an act of sin because it interrupts the order and bonds that God put in this world during creation. In creation, God purposefully and strategically “bound humans to creation as the caretaker of it, to himself as bearers of his image, and to each other as perfect complements”(Plantinga 29). If you think about it, most sin in this world can…

The Israelite prophets had various definitions of sin in the bible. Sin is associated with Idolatry. Sin is associated with idol worshipping and is outlined by the six prophets of Israel, Amos, Ezekiel, Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Micah. It is my aim to provide a clear understanding of sin based on the six-prophet’s ideology and perception. In a simplistic view sin is defined as any worship of other gods or objects aside from their one true God is idolatry, which creates social injustice, economic injustice and pride.…
