Forgiveness and God
Forgiveness.
It is a part of our daily routine. Something we frequently give and take but do we truly understand its meaning?
According to Encarta Dictionary, to forgive means to stop being angry about something, to pardon someone from their mistakes, to cancel an obligation or offense such as a debt.
According to primary students, Forgiveness means not taking revenge. Forgiveness means being friends again.
Forgiveness, for me, is the best gift we can give and receive. Not only it is free but we also honour God when we do so.
The greatest act of forgiveness is the forgiveness God gives to us, sinners.
God’s forgiveness is priceless. Jesus Christ already died on the cross to save us. Redemption. And he gives it freely. All we have to do is ask.
It is said in Romans 3:23-24 “All of us have sinned and fall short, yet God declares us ‘not guilty’ If we trust in Jesus Christ, who in mercy FREELY takes away our sins.”
Freely, he is not asking for any payment. We just really have to confess and ask for forgiveness.
And when we have asked for it, he gives it to us instantly.
Isaiah 55:7 proves this, “God is merciful and is quick to forgive.”
The moment we ask for forgiveness, we are automatically forgiven. No need to wait a long and dreadful time for his forgiveness.
A little boy had just been tucked into bed by his mother, who was waiting to hear his prayer. But the little boy had been naughty that day, and now it was bothering him. He asked his mother if she could leave so he could pray by himself. The mother, sensing that something was wrong, she asked, “Bobby? Is there something you ought to tell me?” “No mommy.” He replied. “You would just scold at me, but God will forgive me and he will forget about it.”
He will forgive and he will forget. Clean slate. He wouldn’t use our sins and mistakes against us. It is completely forgotten, like it never happened. All our sins erased.
We, as humans, we can’t help but sin. It is inevitable and we do it over and

When you forgive you take back control from your perpetrators. You are open to understanding the difficulties of one. As well as coming to peace in mind and becoming stronger person. The Nazis’ needed a scapegoat, someone to blame for their loss, in which was the Jews (which is purely incorrect). Most young Germans back then were influenced or foolish not to open their eyes. In Wiesenthal, The Sunflower, he speaks about a Karl, a former Nazi and his story and how he saw a family die. While he is on his deathbed he asks for forgiveness and the only reason he was on his deathbed was because he thought of the family that died in front of him while an explosion happened, Karl says, “in that moment I saw the burning family, the father with the child and behind them the mother… ‘No I cannot shoot at them a second time”. It may have only been because he only saw a closer picture of everything that he apologized. After all this time, he only needed to open his eyes and he did and realized the wrong he…

Despite all the mistakes a person makes shouldn’t forgiveness always be achievable? Kit forgave many people in her life, she forgave her father even after everything he put her through. Kit forgave her mother for not trying hard enough and she forgave many people that entered her life and made mistakes as well. In the novel “Baygirl” by Heather Smith the theme is that there is always room for forgiveness.…

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake. However, there is a deeper meaning to this. Contrary to some of Harold S. Kushner’s statements, I believe that forgiveness is as beneficial for the victim of the crimes as it is for the offender. In fact, I am far more inclined to agree with Jose Hobday’s views. He states that…

Reconciliation can be described, as a sacrament of "penance" as this describes the essential interior disposition required for this sacrament. As explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it is called the sacrament of penance, because it consecrates the penitent’s personal and ecclesial steps of conversion, penance, and satisfaction. The sacrament of reconciliation is a sacrament in which the priest, as the agent of God, forgives sins committed after baptism, when the sinner is heartily sorry for them, sincerely confesses them, and is willing to make satisfaction for them. This power to forgive sin, which Jesus conferred upon his apostles, is now given to priests. When the priest raises his hand and says these words, "I absolve thee from thy sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” the penitent’s sins are forgiven. These are called "the words of absolution." This makes reconciliation a sacrament of “ Forgiveness”. It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an…

The general topic of forgiveness has received a magnitude of attention and research on a conceptual level in recent years. Hall and Fincham consistently noted, however, that self-forgiveness had little to no empirical study or research documented and believe this is a critical piece to an individual’s overall emotional health. In an effort to stimulate additional research on the subject, they wrote the aforesaid journal article. The article describes self-forgiveness by definition in both a spiritual and a psychological context. Much insight is given to the similarities and differences between self-forgiveness, or intrapersonal forgiveness, and interpersonal forgiveness. Many conceptual distinctions are addressed and appropriately confirm the need for further research on self-forgiveness as it relates to the inflated interest in the importance and nature of forgiveness in general. In addition, much discussion covers the relation of self-forgiveness to interpersonal forgiveness in regards to the importance, or even necessity, of one to the other.…

I have been very impacted by this practice and deeply respect many traditions like the Anglican and Catholic churches. These traditions heavily emphasize asking God for forgiveness through a plethora of prayers and liturgical practices in each church meeting. I was having a conversation about forgiveness with a friend who is a part of the Anglican tradition and he gave me a very good understanding of why it is important to ask for forgiveness. He mentioned that our humility before God is paramount to our understanding of our forgiveness. We will not understand the extreme debt payed for our sins if we simply accept the gift like a thoughtful, but nonessential birthday present. It is so much more that. It is the humbling of ourselves and a recognizing the truth that we are not worthy of our forgiveness. Thus, asking God for forgiveness is simply a way of deeply humbling ourselves before the Lord. Originally, I would have responded by saying we are capable of doing the same thing in repentance, but then he brought up The Lord’s Prayer. It is clear that Jesus tells us to ask God for forgiveness when we pray, “Forgive us this day our tresspasses”. Because of this clear command from Jesus, studying The Lord’s Prayer for a theology of forgiveness seems like a clear and important place to understand the true purpose of forgiveness. I will paraphrase Pastor Nijay Gupta, as he believes…

Jesus’ message about forgiveness is clearly given to us in the bible through the parable of the Prodigal Son. In this story, two brothers are promised large inheritances from their father. However, while the older brother patiently waits for his inheritance, the younger brother asks for his share right away. He ends up wasting all of his money on material items, and not saving any for food or shelter. The younger son returns to his father’s house, not expecting a warms welcome. However, the father is thrilled to see him, and even prepares a banquet for him. The older brother is upset that the father welcomed the younger brother back, but the father tells him that he should be happy, because “his brother who was once lost had been found”.…
