ERIN BROCKOVICH
In the movie, Erin Brockovich is a very strong, provocative and gutsy divorced woman. She is a mother trying to support her three beautiful children. She finds herself involved in a motor vehicle accident and through a referral meets Ed Masry a partner of the law firm Masry & Vititoe. Brockovich had serious injuries from the accident and therefore sued the person responsible for crashing into her vehicle. Mr. Masry represented Brockovich in the personal injury case and they won a small settlement.
Brockovich managed to secure a position as a filing clerk in Masry’s law firm, where she was somewhat trained to perform clerical duties such as organizing and opening files and photocopying. While opening and organizing a pro bono real estate file Brockovich finds medical records and blood samples in the file, which was surprising. Brockovich goes to speak to the owner of the property in Hinckley and learns that Public Gas & Electric Company located near Hinckley paid for the families medical bills. Brockovich started talking with a lot of people in that area and they all seemed to be sick and/or have serious illnesses, even the children.
Brockovich went and spoke to an environmental specialist about the illnesses that plagued the town. PG & E misinformed the town about the chemical Chromium 6 they were using. They told the Hinckley community that it was a safe chemical. The environmentalist told Brockovich it was not safe at all and through investigation it turns out the company had been contaminating the town’s water supply with Chromium 6 for over 30 years. The contamination affected the health of the whole town with aliments such as headaches, nosebleeds, respiratory problems to heart failure, liver failure, bone damage, and cancer.
Brockovich went to the Water Control Board to research and found records showing the high levels of Chromium 6. Brockovich reported what she
