Most importantly, Esperanza face the challenge of Mama getting Valley Fever as an immigrant . During the time of the dust storm most immigrants get Valley Fever. Which is were your lungs get dust in them. So that's what happened to Mama. On page 158 ,’’she sponged her with cool water and fed her teaspoons of broth throughout the day. This quote shows that Esperanza is very scared. Also she lost her Papa already so she is caring for her Mama. This is the biggest Esperanza had to face as a immigrant.
In conclusion Esperanza has faced many challenges as an immigrant in the United States. Esperanza had to do daily chores and her Mama suffered Valley Fever. She has faced these challenges which made her a stronger person.She learned how to fight and stay together as a family. Most of all she learned facing challenges makes you a better person.
