Electronic sports (eSports) is a term for organized video game competitions, especially between professionals. Other names include competitive gamin, professional gaming and cyber sport. Controversies from the gaming community include people debating whether video games should be considered a sport because of the lack of physical activity. StarCraft, Dota, Hearthstone and League of Legends are games that players contend competitively. It could be a team match or just a single person battling it out to know who the best is in their region and sometimes the world. In the NBA, the NFL, the NHL and the NBL athletes play in teams to know who the best in the region or the world is. Notice the similarities? They are all playing competitively. They all want to go to the big stage to show off their skills and earn the bragging rights as well as the prize money. Recently, League of Legends had a world tournament that was held at Los Angeles Lakers home court, Staples Center. The tournament consisted of fourteen teams from around the globe. Three teams from North America, Three teams from Korea, Three teams from Europe, Two teams from China, Two teams from South East Asia and a wild card from South America. They all played in a sold out stage with more than 8 million people watching from home. This is almost as big as the NBA finals and a Stanley Cup. An article from the Internet called “The reason why eSport can’t be a sport” stated that eSports should not be considered a sport but just events because the player don’t use their physicality to actually win the game. It also referred to the dictionary which stated that “Sports are generally recognized as activities which are based in physical athleticism or physical dexterity”. It is true that video games don’t make you fit or slim but we are also forgetting the fact that gamers also train as hard as a regular athlete of any sport would train for this game. They need to
