Reebok Advertisement Analysis A majority of the population has had an experience with advertisements. They are everywhere we look. Have you ever looked through a magazine or drove past a billboard and wondered, “Who comes up with these ideas?” Have you ever looked through a pamphlet and was so drawn in that you couldn’t help but pull out you credit card and order the product? The entire purpose of advertisement is to promote a product. Cosmopolitan Magazine issue July 2014 includes a Reebok Skyscape shoe ad for women. The color scheme, emotional appeal, sex appeal and the rhetorical context of the image are successful strategies used to sell their product. The Reebok advertisement as mentioned, features a very clean and sheek color scheme. Using white and beige color throughout, with bright pink color only pertaining to the product itself and the products description. While encouraging the consumer to easily find the focal point, the bright pink color stands out in such a way that the consumer will be drawn to the sneaker as well as the benefits this product provides. Also shown in the bottom right corner, is the amount of traction the shoe provides for any athletic buyer. The strategic use of a bright bold colors and great traction creates a successful advertisement that the consumer will want to buy. Another successful strategy the advertisement offers is the emotional appeal. The setting represents a comfortable bedroom atmosphere leading the consumer to associate the comfort of the product with the comfort you feel while in your own bed. While indicating the comfortability factor by stating “it’s no wonder taking them off doesn’t come to mind” in the text, leads the consumer to believe that whether you are running a marathon or simply relaxing in the privacy of your own home, this product will not interfere. Miranda Kerr, an Australian model for Victoria’s Secret wears the product while lying in bed

With the advents of technology, advertisements depict women as desirable commodities this has poisoned the minds of many young women ultimately morphing values and beliefs. Women are shown in subordinate, submissive, and male pleasing roles. Media and advertisement representation reflects and reinforces sexism in society today. The social standards of beauty and feminism are set by Hollywood’s greatest celebrities. They do this by alluring women into buying cosmetic products affirming the concept of female beauty. Companies such as “bebe”, apply the same technique to persuade women in buying their apparel. In the ad “bebe”, the company portrays a woman holding a bright red lipstick getting off a taxi while flaunting a revealing dress. On the other side, she is shown obeying all rules, in bed with black revealing lingerie with an enticing text, “9pm to 5am obey all the rules, you miss all the fun”. The ad amplifies its message and allures its audience to disobey all the rules if they want to become “the bad girl” by purchasing “bebe’s” apparel.…

To start off, this ad has a lack of color except for the periwinkle polish that is apart of the large image. This lack of color helps to highlight the pigmentation of the nail polish as well as the main focus of the ad. The brand name is even in white, but it is being outlined by faint grey shading to make the letters seem three dimensional like on the nail polish bottle. In the middle of the page, there is a huge, clear cassette tape balancing on top of a bottle of Essie nail polish. The periwinkle color polish in this bottle is being…

The economy is based on consumption and advertising is an indispensable motivator that persuades people to consume. Advertising is one of the biggest tools companies use to sell a product. Today if a product is not actively marketing, publicizing, or advertising itself the product will fail. It is essential for an advertisement to use rhetorical appeals to grab the viewer’s attention. Advertising can be so good that it can sell things to people using a picture alone. It is all in the eye of the beholder. So when I was flipping through the pages of Cosmopolitan magazine I stumble across an ad for ZzzQuil an - over - the counter sleeping aid. It was towards the middle of the magazine and it popped out like a huge billboard. The ad captures attention because the picture of the women sleeping looks so comfortable and makes peaceful sleep desirable and attainable. The ad shows a woman in her bedroom with her striped bedding sleeping in what appears to be a very deep sleep. She is lying face down, eyes shut, with mouth wide open in her bed with her curly hair pressed against the pillow and her arm dangling off the side of the bed. She is sleeping in her bed with a big caption saying “Because sleep is a beautiful thing” (“ZzzQuil”). The ad has amazing appeal and is a great attention grabber. The target audience is clear and defined and all three appeals are used well. The ZzzQuil advertisement is targeting women and they are using all three rhetorical appeals ethos, pathos, and logos to sell this product.…

The two advertisements that LISB annotated were ‘Solo’s’ ‘The legend of the lemon tree’ and ‘Mount Franklin’s’ ‘Add a little sparkle’. Both brands are drinks but ‘Solo’ advertises soft drinks and ‘Mount Franklin’ advertises different variations of water. The target audience for the ‘Solo’ ad is men because the intention of the ad is that if you drink ‘Solo’, then you will be fit and strong like the ‘Solo Man’. In addition, the target audience for the Mount Franklin ad is women because the intention of the ad is that if you drink ‘Mount Franklin’, you will look like Jennifer Hawkins. The contention of the ‘Solo’ ad is to emphasise how Solo was ‘made’. Furthermore, the contention of the ‘Mount Franklin’ ad is what would happen if you drink the product, rather than demonstrating how it was made like the ‘Solo’ ad.…

The Shining is a suspenseful thriller novel about a man who goes phsycho and does unspeakable things to his family. The print ad for the novel “The Shining” by Stephen King appeals to the targeted audience of our classmates and peers by appealing to pathos, ethos, and logos, as a result of being a suspenseful thriller, the print ad of the novel will appeal to pathos through motifs in the story, the word “redrum” and a croquet mallet (in the movie it’s an axe) – all of which re foreshadowing symbols of what is to happen in the story. The ad appeals to logos through its isolated antiqued setting – the overlook hotel, and to ethos by providing a well-known critic’s opinion of the novel.…

We live in a fast paced society that is ruled by mass media. Every day we are bombarded by images of, perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin, and ageless faces that flash at us like a slide show. These ideas and images are imbedded in our minds throughout our lives. Advertisements select audience openly and subliminally, and target them with their product. They allude to the fact that in order to be like the people in this advertisement you must use their product. This is not a new approach, nor is it unique to this generation, but never has it been as widely used as it is today. There is and old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" and what better way to tell someone about a product than with all one thousand words, that all fit on one page. Take for example this ad for Hennessy cognac found in Cosmopolitan, which is a high, priced French liquor. This ad is claiming in more ways than one that Hennessy is an upscale cognac and is "appropriately complex" as well as high-class liquor. There are numerous subliminal connotations contingent to this statement.…

Everything in the world is bought for a reason, whether prompted by human necessity or sneaky advertisements. Advertisements drive 90% of purchases made in a lifetime, including homes, toys, clothes, etc. These multitudes of purchases are made because advertising experts create propaganda and throw it persuasively upon every individual in every society. Advertisements are a significant part of today's culture because advertising and persuasion affect everyone all around the world. It is important to consider how effective advertising actually is since there are different ways to promote a product. Analyzing an ad is a process of figuring out what the writer of the ad wants you to think of the product they are trying to sell you. Whether it’s the perfect picture of what you may look like when after using the item or a warm feeling created by the images, colors and textures within the ad persuades the reader to buy. How you interpret the advertisement can all depend on what is going on in your life at the time you read it. Let’s say you had an accident that left you with a scar and you see an ad for a cream that diminishes scars and marks. You would definitely consider buying the cream depending on how it is advertised. If they show incredible results, along with things that help it to be more believable (like FDA approval signs, etc.), you would certainly buy it. I have chosen to analyze an ad for baby formula. Depending on the information in the ad, I will describe it’s how believable it is and whether or not I would consider feeding this formula to my own baby.…

Women, beauty, sex, money--they may seem like completely unrelated words but when combined together create a powerful driving force within American society. This “driving force” is known as media, though, in this essay, I will be focusing mainly on advertisements. There are a variety of ads being made everyday and can be spotted almost everywhere; billboards, magazines, shops, and even online, just to name a few. However, many of these ads--ranging from food to fashion--have began involving women in them. Not just any women either; these women are the idealized women American society has conceptualized as they flaunt their bodies whilst also implying sexual themes. Individuals, literally and figurative, by into the way these advertisements…

Advertisements are everywhere. From billboards, to magazines, to newspapers, flyers and TV commercials, chances are that you won’t go a day without observing some sort of ad. In most cases, companies use these ads as persuasive tools, deploying rhetorical appeals—logos, pathos, and ethos—to move their audiences to think or act in a certain way. The two magazine ads featured here, both endorsing Pedigree products, serve as excellent examples of how these modes of persuasion are strategically used.…

In a society filled with wants and needs, advertisement serves as a persuasive yet informative factor while aiming for an appealing effect on the potential consumer, Advertisement’s influential role on the consumer has provided a reliable resource for successful sales, while simultaneously creating a more competitive environment for opposing companies. For example, Rimmel London and Cover Girl, two extremely successful makeup industries are at constant war in advertising. When selling similar products, such as make up, brands are completely reliant on their advertisement’s approach. In all reality, both products may have the same effect but must rely on their commercial’s “pitch” to sell. If not marketed properly, even the best products can be overshadowed. Despite their widely different approach, both Rimmel London and Cover Girl understand the core elements of successful advertisement.…

Starting off with this reading, I didn't like it. It was just too much negativity against something that we use everyday for the wants and needs of ourselves and others. I do agree however, on the fact that we should buy advertised products rather than those that aren't advertised. I guess you can say its due to the fact that the companies publicly back their products, but I believe if you cannot…
