In my Blugold Seminar writing 118 class, I have developed many skills and abilities that have improved my writing ability as a student and an essential communicator. These skills include using a variety of digital and multimedia sources critically to create an efficient use of information, awareness pertaining to the conventions of Academic English by using appropriate tone, style, format, and structure in writing, understanding and usage of the concepts of purpose, audience, and rhetorical situation in writing, formulating viable research questions, hypotheses, and conclusions, and the ability to assess accurately the strengths and weaknesses of one’s own writing, with the knowledge on how to develop individual plans for revisions and improvement. Throughout the class, I was able to learn and develop this outcome. At the beginning of the semester, this concept was foreign to me, however, by the end of the semester, I knew how to accurately interpret and why this was so important to writing. This development of skill is seen in my S2 rhetorical analysis essay. It addresses the tone, style, format, and structure in the ted talk presentation, and how it applies to its message directed toward different audiences depending if they were present during the live Ted Talk, or if it was watched over a video. Implications of this academic outcome in a practical term is present in the S4 presentation project on Medical Marijuana. The tone was set at a lighter note, the style was cheerier, the format was colorful and organized, perfectly laid out to peak the interests of younger adults on a matter that might not be interesting enough if the information was not set out in that particular

The art of writing is a unique skill that requires the writer to have great flexibility and be open to improvement. Some may consider themselves a “perfect writer”, when in reality, no one is, and will ever be. Writing is a process that requires one to continuously build on skills learned in previous situations, applying new techniques and strategies to future writing projects. Different settings require different writing styles, and with that being said, one must be willing to change their writing skills to suit the requirements of their current setting. In the following essay I will reflect on past writing assignments, identifying my best and worst writing courses, strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and my opinion on why writing may or may not be beneficial to me throughout my career.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

In high school, during my senior year, I took the Advanced Placement class, English Language and Composition. During the course of this class, and when we would write essays, we took time to go over the appropriate punctuation needed for these essays and how to accurately place the certain punctuation marks. In my General Studies Writing class at Bowling Green, we did not take part in learning any punctuation. We also did not review any form of this. I actually find it slightly strange that we did not do this during the class, considering both that class and this English 111 class use the same textbook. I don’t have anything against punctuation review. I actually enjoy it, and find it beneficial. There are things I have been confused on or I did not know how to accurately place the punctuation, and I find doing practice exercises and reviewing will help.…

Hi Tuyen Vo. Frankly, passing English 100 class is a challenging target for me. There were many new techniques as well as rules to study because we wrote many types of writings in this class. Another challenge is that there were many assignments that need to be finished in a small amount of time. Submitting all assignments on time sometimes made me stressed out, for I had to put more effort into studying to make sure that there would be no late assignments. I totally agree with you that “hard complications make [people] stronger.” The class taught me that nothing is impossible. As long as I do not give up, I will finish my tasks and receive the reward. Like you, I enjoyed the weekly posts on discussion board. I believe the more we read one’s…
