English 111 Reflection Essay

In high school, during my senior year, I took the Advanced Placement class, English Language and Composition. During the course of this class, and when we would write essays, we took time to go over the appropriate punctuation needed for these essays and how to accurately place the certain punctuation marks. In my General Studies Writing class at Bowling Green, we did not take part in learning any punctuation. We also did not review any form of this. I actually find it slightly strange that we did not do this during the class, considering both that class and this English 111 class use the same textbook. I don’t have anything against punctuation review. I actually enjoy it, and find it beneficial. There are things I have been confused on or I did not know how to accurately place the punctuation, and I find doing practice exercises and reviewing will help.
Whether students know it well or not, more practice can always be an aid in refreshing our memory. As I stated before, I essentially took the same English class but at a different institution. In a result of this, I have noticed that students may not be receiving the punctuation review that they need or want. Even though, it is helpful and needed. I think the Punctuation Review Unit has refreshed my memory on what marks to use and where to place them. It also reminds me of how significant it is to use punctuation in our sentences. Essentially, I think this review is effective and it can easily spark the brain of how to place punctuations
