It is approximately six in the afternoon on this bright shiny day in September. Today is a day like no other, for today we will experience the beauty and grace of the beach at night. For quite some time I've been meaning to experience this illusive phenomenon at night. With all the rumors about the beach being a gloomy and mysterious place under the moon lit sky, I just had to see for myself. The thought of reaching the beach was so tantalizing, that anxiety overwhelmed me. I packed the basic beach utensils; beach towels, sun block, playing cards, a guitar and firewood, therefore was set. The only ingredients missing now for my trip to the beach were my friends, and soon quickly found the solution by picking them up. Along the way, the bumpers of cars were visible for miles, as traffic filled the lanes of the 91 and 55 freeways.

Upon arriving along the shore, the oceans many qualities enlightened my senses. Immediately, I felt the cool ocean breeze caressing my skin. Driving along the sandy beach, I was awestricken by the suns brilliant fire as it as extinguished by the oceans horizon. Off in the distance the oceans waves marched in unison towards the shore. Getting out of the car, the sight of fires illuminated the crowds of beach patrons from a far. After all, beaches are famous for their bonfires at nightfall. The distinct smell of burning paper and wood filled the air. We found a secluded spot with a vast open space containing a fire pit; immediately we started our bonfire. Due to continuous resistance from the wind, starting our fire was a grueling endeavor. After a long and perilous battle with the wind, we finally ignited the fire. At first, the smoke and heat were dense enough to make breathing and seeing difficult, but we soon adjusted. With my eyes closed, I felt a soothing sensation surge through my body as the warmth of the fire countered the bitter chill of the night. For that brief moment, that crackling sound of the burning fire wood was all that

You see, I do not necessarily care for the blistering hot days southern Florida is known for. I enjoy the beach the most when it is cooler; especially when it has just rained. I sit back in my beach chair and look up to the sky. The clouds create a pleasant, refreshing blanket from the hot sun. I take a deep breath and, I can smell the rain that has just fallen. Now, the clouds are breaking and letting little slivers of sunlight shine threw. The new sun seems to change the color of everything. The sand is a bright white with speckles of glittering shells. The ocean is a deep shade of aqua with the sunlight glistening over it. This is…

As you approach the seaside, you are captivated by its beauty. The breathtaking panoramic view is enough to make your knees go weak. The bright, round sun blinds you as it appears rising and climbing like a yellow lemon on the horizon. The radiant rays of the neon sun reflect off of the untouched white sand that covers the ground as far as the eye can perceive. These perfectly placed grains of sand shine like flawlessly polished diamonds. Emerging from the pale sand are enormous jagged, kaki colored palm tree trunks that stand as tall as skyscrapers. Oversized, razor-sharp, emerald leaves hang from the tops while swaying back and forth in the light ocean breeze. The ocean water sparkles and glitters playfully like twinkling stars flickering in the night sky. The sights alone are enough to soften your soul with tranquility.…

It was time to unload our beach supplies. Spending a day at Chesapeake Bay always included our large blue cooler packed with plain turkey sandwiches and ice cold water bottles. My siblings and I had the responsibility to carry our beach tools, such as our yellow sand sifter, sand castle molds, and other various beach toys, to the sandy destination. The walk to the beach from the parking lot was down a skinny dirt pathway through a forest of trees. As we neared the water, the packed down dirt gradually turned to soft white sand. The sound of small waves caressing the shore became audible. High pitched squeals of small children at play along the water’s edge sounded like the shrieks of seagulls flying above the water looking for their next meal.…

As soon as we got to our hotel room, I rushed to put on my swimsuit to go to the beach before the sun fully set. The hotel room looked like I had been there for a month, with clothes scattered over the marbled tiles in our hotel bathroom. The soft sand between my toes felt like fuzzy socks as I ran to meet the ocean’s tide. The foaming water washed away the sand as well as the stress I had accumulated at the airport. My worries about not having my parents with me and being in a new place fled as I watched the sun set behind the tall…

I can see an elderly couple walking a long the sand, a yellow labrador running happily ahead. The smooth weathered rocks of the cliff side whisper in the wind. The crisp seaweed pushed onto the rocks by the waves, lay baking at the sea's edge, occasionally moving with the tide. The clear blue sea's waves rattle the tiny pebbles embedded in the golden sand. The foam from the waves cover a small child's forgotten sandcastle, bringing it down with a dull crash. The high tide pushes back the crowd of people to the beach's edge. Ice cream stalls and candy floss stands wafts a sickly sweet smell of sugar to a group of little children, who pester their parents for an ice cream in loud, whining voices that carries across the beach. The clinking of glasses at the bar and the low hum of conversation mingle in with the loud seagull's squawking. The swooping of the gulls to capture food littered across the sand scare a couple of people into dropping their ice creams and hotdogs.…

When the gorgeous Holiday Beach came into my sight, I felt that I would have a relaxed and happy week there. The next day, my body and soul were greatly relaxed. I sat on the beach with my legs buried under the warm sand and enjoyed sunbathing; I listened to waves hitting rocks and seagulls singing. At the same time, I felt that coming to such a beautiful beach without family is a kind of regret. Seeing families taking photos and videos on the beach made me happy; looking at families playing in the seawater and sand together made me miss my family. However, my friends’ company made up for my regret. On the beach, we watched the wonderful dolphin shows and seal…
