Yesterday, I was informed of the successful deployment of Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan marking the end of the World War II. Pictures of what remains of the cities came today in the newspaper. While some people celebrate this, some people mourn. I am on the fence with this. I celebrate for I am a proud American citizen, but mourn for the possible end of mankind. In my early years, I worked for my passion, to help mankind discover this vast world. But they say that not all discoveries end in happiness, just like when America was discovered by Columbus, it spelt the doom for native Indians and life as they know it. As I look over to the future, I realize that I may be part of the first generation of humans to live without fear of immediate extinction by other humans. The power of such a weapon, in the wrong hands, would leave no one safe and words such as ‘national security’ would have no meaning at all. When you grow up, your world would either be in peace and prosperity maintained by these weapons or extinct. With such a weapon, nations would think twice before declaring war. But if they do, that will be the last declaration they might ever
