grandson she is very outgoing and persistent. Phoenix was meditating and out of nowhere a dog comes up out of the weeds and she fell over in a ditch. ¨A black dog with a lolling tongue came up out of the weeds by the ditch. She was meditating, and not ready, and when he came at her she only hit him a little with her cane. Over she went in a ditch, like a puff of milkweed.¨ Unable to get out herself she waited for someone to find her. When someone does find Phoenix the man helps her get out of the ditch, he starts to be rude to Phoenix by saying racist things to her. ¨I know you colored people! Wouldn't miss going to town to see Santa Claus.¨ His dog and the dog that attacked Phoenix get into a fight, when it is over the man holds a gun to Phoenix's head. ¨Doesn't the gun scare you? He said, still pointing it.¨ ¨No, sir, I seen plenty go off closer by, in my day, and for less than what I done.¨ The man leaves without doing any harm to Phoenix but drops a nickel, Phoenix picks up the nickel and continues on her way. Phoenix gets to town and goes to the building with the medicine in it.
The nurses take Phoneix and ask her how her grandson is. ¨My little grandson, he sit up there in the house all wrapped up, waiting by himself.¨ They give Phoenix the medicine and an attendant gives her nickel and back on the journey Phoenix goes, ¨Five pennies is a nickel, said Phoenix stiffly.¨ ¨Here's a nickel, said the attendant.¨ The long and tough journey had to take not for her self but for her grandson is definitely sacrifice. She faces near death experiences multiply times during that journey, from walking across a lake on a log, getting stuck in a ditch with no one in sight to help, or when the man pointed a gun at her. Phoenix stayed persistent and didn't give up. Phoenix was reward for not giving up not only did she get the medicine for her grandson but she also got ten cents. With great sacrifice comes
reward.
