Essay On Aneurysm
Aneurysm is a weakness in a blood vessel in the brain that balloons and fills with blood. Aneurysm is a rare case to come across, that only fewer than 200,000 US cases per year. Roughly about 13,000 death occur each year in the US from aortic aneurysms. Most common sites aneurysm occurs is the brain, aorta, legs and spleen. Causes of aneurysm has no exact cause, certain factors has contributed to the condition. For example, damage tissues in the arteries, and arteries can be harmed by blockage such as fatty deposits. These fatty deposit can trigger the heart to pump harder the normal pushing blood past the fatty buildup. Stress can damage the arteries of the increased pressure. Atherosclerotic diseases can also lead to aneurysm, people who associate with the atherosclerotic disease have a form of plaque buildup in their arteries. This specific build up is due to hard substance called plaque that damages the arteries and prevents the flow of blood. Lastly, hypotension influences the cause of aneurysm where the force of blood vessels is measured by how much pressure it places …show more content…
Males are more likely to have aneurysms than females, people older than 60 are also at a higher risk. Other factors include a diet high in fats and cholesterol, family history of heart conditions, heart disease, heart attacks, smoking, obesity, and pregnancy (which may make increase risk of having aneurysm of the spleen). In diagnosing aneurysm you provider may refer you to a cardiothoracic or vascular surgeon. Diagnostic tools used to find arterial damage often depends on the location of the problem. Most common tools used to diagnose or find blood vessels irregularities are CT scan and ultrasound. CT scans complies with x-ray’s to examine the internal structures of the body, this permits providers to see the condition of the blood vessels, as well as blockage, bulges, and weak

The carotid arteries are normally smooth and unobstructed on the inside, but as one ages, a sticky substance called plaque, “which is made out of cholesterol, calcium, and fibrous tissue” can build up in the walls of these arteries. The carotid arteries will then become stiff and narrow. The most common location of plaque buildup is the Carotid bifurcation. 3 [change slide] Carotid artery disease is a serious health problem and a major cause of strokes, which can lead to brain damage or even death. There are three ways in which carotid artery disease can increase the risk of a stroke. (1). Plaque deposits can grow larger and larger; severely narrowing the artery and reducing blood flow to the brain, where Plaque can eventually completely block the artery. (2). Plaque deposits can roughen and deform the artery wall, causing blood clots to form and blocking blood flow to the brain. (3). Plaque deposits can rupture and flow to the brain. This fragment may get stuck in one of the smaller arteries, creating a blockage that cuts off blood supply to that area of the brain causing a stroke 2 [change slide]…

I laid in a cot in my own section of the surgical center. I was about to meet my anesthesiologist for my arthroscopic knee surgery. An anesthesiologist is in charge of administering anesthetics “prior to, during, or after surgery or other medical procedures” (“Anesthesiologists”). The anesthesiologist entered the room and greeted me. She was going to be in charge of my life while I was under. She had to give me just the right amount of anesthetics. Too much and I would perish. Too little and I would awake during surgery and feel every tugging motion inside my knee. Outside the operating room far off is an observatory where an astronomer is hard at work. What he does is fascinating and fantastical to my eyes but it would not be something I would like to do full time. Becoming an anesthesiologist is what I decided to do because it is more of a true full time job, it requires a lot of work, and it is overall a career that is both exhilarating and interesting for me.…

Finding out someone’s blood pressure is very important. Johannes Müller once said, “The discovery of blood pressure was more important than the discovery of blood.” Someone’s blood pressure could be high, and no one would know. The reason being is that a person with high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, will usually have no symptoms. High or low blood pressure cannot be detected without being measured. High blood pressure could cause heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure. Low blood pressure could also cause heart attacks, strokes, or kidney failure.…

When this happens the vessel is already narrowed by plaque and a clot also forms, causing a heart attack. An individual that’s having a heart attack will experience intense pain or it may be a mild discomfort. This more mild pain often occurs in women. Most of the time when this happens the condition may go undiagnosed and is not treated but the damage remains. Sometime if you do not have an ECG or blood tests you may not know that you have a problem and you walk around with a time bomb ready to explode. At such time it is often too late for that individual.…

Aortic dissection occurs most often in the thoracic aorta. This is more likely to happen if the inner layer of the aorta has a weak spot or gets injured. As the dissection widens and blood flows through it, the aorta becomes “double-barreled.” This means one part of the aorta continues to carry blood. However, the inner wall begins to separate from the rest of the aorta as blood flows through the tear. The torn part of the aorta fills with blood. It swells up like a balloon. This can reduce blood flow through the part of the aorta that is still working.…
