According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness in 2011, there were over “17, 501 homeless people in the state of Texas meaning that out of every 10,000 residents 12 people are homeless.” Many people believe that homeless people made that choice but there are deeper issues at hand such as the children and young teens who are homeless without anywhere to go. Most individuals that are homeless tend to already have had a drug problem or start abusing drugs while out on the streets. According to BC Parter mental and health and addictions that, “One US study reports that, for people who have ever experienced homelessness, the median age (i.e., the mid-point across the participants' ages) at first street experience was 28 years .” Most homeless people tend to use drugs to better their situation or take the pain away from the issues surrounding their everyday life.
