Essay On Bullying In America

Bullying amongst America’s youth has evolved into much more than just teasing one’s peers on the playground at school. With the technology today children can be bullied on the internet through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well. This takes this problem to another level. How should the American citizens and lawmakers go about preventing bullying? State mandated programs to prevent bullying should be enacted in schools, daycares, and youth camps to teach children that bullying is wrong and there are consequences if they are caught bullying their peers. In April of this year 10 students were arrested after a video was found on YouTube of them pushing and teasing another child they were all 12 years and younger. Bullying can be defined as harassment, hazing, and threatening someone either verbally or in written form. If bullying continues it will cause chaos throughout America in the future because if children are allowed to display this behavior in their youth it will trickle into their adult lives. Children that are victims of bullying suffer from mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts because of how they are treated. Suicidal
A grade school boy who is overweight and a little eccentric comes home and hibernates in his room every day because his peers scream free willy when they pass by him and no one wants to be friends with him. He is anxious every day when it is time to leave for school. This is a sad situation. His parents take him to a phycologist because he is too embarrassed to tell them why he just wants to be alone all the time. The doctor diagnoses him with depression and prescribes an anti-depressant drug to help him cope. This is scary but it happens more often than not.
