Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes mucus to block the intestines and lungs.When you have Cystic fibrosis the normally thin liquid mucus in your lungs and intestines turns into a thick and sticky substance trapping bacteria causing infections and blocking passageways. The usually thin mucus is supposed to act as a lubricant. When the thick mucus is in your body it causes problems such as lung infections, pancreas issues leading to diabetes, and the mucus blocks the production of enzymes that absorb nutrients from the food you eat causing the patients to be very skinny and weak. To get Cystic fibrosis both parents have to carry the mutated gene then according to studies you will then have a 1 in 4 chance of getting the disease. Some symptoms of Cystic fibrosis are very salty sweat, abnormal bowel movements (your waste looks different), multiple lung infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, as well as difficulty to gain weight. There is also many ways to treat those symptoms, Some common treatments are airway clearance with a vest you put on a vest that is connected to a machine and it vibrates very quickly loosening the mucus inside the lungs. People also use inhalers to get aerosol medicine straight to the lungs. A less common way of treating the disease is to undergo a lung transplant. Although a lung transplant seems as it would be the most effective way to cure the disease lung transplants are very expensive and you would be put on a very long wait
