THE EIFFEL TOWER
The Eiffel Tower a symbol of Paris and France was built in1889. It is affectionately known as "Iron Lady". It rises 324 meters above the city. It was designed and built by an engineer Gustave Eiffel.
It weighs in excess of 10000 tonnes and is made up of 18000 individual metal sections assembled using 2500000 rivets. The tower had three levels for the visitors to climb either by using stairs or elevator . It has nearly 300 steps from ground to the first level. The First and Second levels have restaurants.
Initially the permit for the building was for 20 years and to be torn down in1909. However the dawn of radio age changed its course in history. Initially it was dedicated solely to radio transmission in1898 and public radio broadcast in 1925 followed by telecommunications.
It attracts some 7 million visitors every year. It is vertiginous emblem of industrial revolution right in the heart of Paris and Corner Stone of the Universal Exibition of 1889.
