One type of place a child could go to in these situations is foster care. There are many types of foster care. During short-term placement the carer may have to have high level of contact with the birth parents to make sure that the child and parent still have contact. During the time the child is in short-term care adoption processes will be going on between the carers once an adoptive family are able to take the child the carer has the job of introducing the child. Alternatively, the carers will help to reunite the child with their birth parents providing the authorities allow the child to return to their care.
As well as, short-term fostering there is also long-term fostering this is where a fostering family wish to look after a young child until they reach adulthood.
