Trident
The word itself comes from a Latin phrase that means “three teeth.” It is related to the Greek world because it shares a name with the weapon of choice of the Greek god Pseidon. Pseidon, also known as Neptune in the Roman world, is the god of the sea in Greek mythology who carries a trident, a type of three-pronged spear commonly used in fishing. The makers of the Trident gum chose the name because the gum originally contained three enzymes to reduce the risk of tooth decay and cavities. The shared name is a connection between Poseidon’s trident and the enzymes in Trident gum.
Pandora …show more content…
In ancient Greek mythology, Pandora was the first human woman created by the gods. Each god present helped create her by giving her unique gifts. She received these gifts from the gods, including the gift of music, from Apollo. She was also very curious. The Pandora Radio, today, celebrates the virtue and has made it a mission to reward the musically curious. Pandora is also the name of a company that sells jewelry. The name can be again connected to Pandora, the human that the Greek gods created, who received gifts similar to how others are gifted jewelry.
Venus
The Greek goddess Aphrodite, also known as Venus in the Roman world, is known for her beauty and love. The name Venus was adopted by the razor brand Gillette in a clever marketing way that may convince women that if they use Gillette’s Venus razor, they too could feel beautiful and powerful like a goddess. The company’s catchphrase is “Find the goddess in you.” The company chose to use the name to urge women to find the confidence in their inner goddess.
