Donald Trump has been quoted numerous times saying, “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will make Mexico pay for that wall.” (Donald Trump).

during his time in office to try and stop illegal immigrants from coming into the United States. Recently, however, people have started to point out why building a wall won’t work to keep out the people illegally crossing the border. People all across America, and sometimes across the world, point out that there is more than one way to cross the border.
Some Americans point out the fact when the whole wall debate is brought up that there is numerous ways to cross the border into the United States. You can enter America on a plane, on a boat, and can have someone sneak you across the border. Not everyone hops the fence and strolls right on in. Also, you can enter America legally and just outstay your Visa, thus becoming an “illegal” immigrant. While outstaying your Visa technically does make you an illegal immigrant, you came into America legally and didn’t hop the fence.
Another point made about why Donald Trump’s wall won’t work is the length and height of it. It would be very difficult to build, even on the best building ground possible. The wall would be around 1,900 miles long and the height has been long debated. Donald Trump at first had said that the wall would be 30 feet. Donald Trump even went on to say that the wall would get 10 feet higher. Even with the changes in height, and sometimes length, one thing remains the same; the wall will be expensive.
Donald Trump’s wall would run through a lot of private land. While he might be able to buy them out, people on the private property might not go without a high price. Some of it is also protected land. This border wall would be even harder to build because of its location and the terrain of the area. The Mexican-American border has streams, lakes, cities, and national parks which he couldn’t destroy just for this one purpose.
Many parts of the border are dotted with rugged terrains and streams, which would be nearly impossible to build on. In other areas, there are protected wildlife refuges and Indian territory. And elsewhere, ranchers would have to agree to sell their land to the federal government — which is unlikely to happen, even as disgruntled as they may be that migrants are using their property as a border crossing area. "It's private land," Cornelius said. "Trump can't just go in and build his wall."(NBC News)
Trump first said that the border would cost $4 billion to construct, then $7 billion, then $10 billion, then $12 billion, when in reality, experts have estimated the 35 to 55-foot wall to cost $25 billion, and after seven years it would exceed that number to maintain it.(John Oliver)
This would put the United States in even more debt than it already is!
America really can’t afford to build this wall. Also, the wall would take a long time to build. Along with the expensive cost of just the wall, you have to add labor prices, the price of buying people out of their homes, and the price to remove any natural obstacles that get in their way. That bumps the price up even more. Then add in how much it will cost to maintain the wall, the results of spending this much money on something like this, which might not even be effective, would be a …show more content…
disaster.
If Donald Trump was able to build the wall, it is probable that it would cause a serious backlash on him and the government.
Right now, people are protesting the building of a pipeline in North Dakota and people are protesting that majorly. That pipeline will be cutting through one state, Trumps wall will be covering about four states. If the American people were not happy about one state being torn apart for our “benefit”, they sure won’t be happy with numerous states being torn apart for something that some people don’t support. In general, the most people are against. It just seems probable that riots and outburst could come from building this wall and that it could tear America apart at the
seams.
Yet, even with all of the odds against him, Donald Trump still talks about pursuing his dream wall. He still claims that his wall is absolutely buildable and he knows what he’s doing because he’s been successful with his other investments and buildings. He says that the wall can cost less than what people are expecting. He expresses that he thinks that the wall wouldn’t be a difficult project since he knows what he’s doing. Donald doesn’t seem to pay attention to what many people are saying about the wall and are saying about the wall and is focusing on the people who aren’t looking at the facts and just agreeing with him because they don’t want any more illegal immigrants.
Donald Trump’s wall causes a lot of arguments across America; whether the wall should be built or not. People are split in two arguing if the United States should put the money and effort forth onto building the wall, or if we should take a smoother approach into stopping illegal immigration. However, if you truly look at the facts and take all the variables into consideration, it is clear to see that the wall will do more damage to America than it will good. Too much money will be spent, it will mess up people’s lives, and it will leave America struggling to stay on its feet, metaphorically. Donald Trump’s Mexico-America border isn’t a smart, effective idea and it should not be done.
