Essay On Immigrant Experience

Being an immigrant for 16 years limited my dreams of attending college. Everything changed in 2015 when I received a letter stating I had to travel to Ciudad Juarez which will determined whether or not I will become a US resident. I knew many doors had opened for me in the dream land. On October 21, 2015 I had an important meeting to attend I was so nerves, excited, and happy after many years of waiting for this moment to arrive it was finally here! Tears coming out when I heard the judge say, “Congratulation Alejandra you are now US residents” I couldn’t believe what was going on, was this dream? Several years of suffering and not be able to see my family in Mexico and now that I have the opportunity I can finally see my grandparent’s graveyard.
Attending college will fulfill my and parents dream. My parents smuggled me over the Mexican-American border at the age of one; their purpose was to see my walk in a cap
My father is the only one that has a job and maintains the household while my mother stays home and takes care of the family. I do not want to become another drain on the family. Being a first-generation student is difficult, and this becomes more embossed with high school. But, it also gives us the desire to continue our education, so we're able to have easier lives than our parents. Therefore, I decide to further my education by going into a community college.
First, after I have completed high school I would like to attend San Diego City College. City College would be a great start for me it has education programs that students can follow to meet the lower division requirements for UC or CSU colleges. I will graduate from a two year community college with a minimum GPA of 4.0. One of my goals as a college student is to study every day for my exams and classrooms work which I did not like to study as a high school
