It is vital that service users’ are involve in every decisions even when they don’t use speech as their main way of communication. In person centred care planning, there are different ways of listening to people other than relying on what they actually say, using different tools such as learning logs, communication charts and others. These are used showing that I am communicating with the service user effectively. It is also part of my job role to ensure that the views of others who know and care about the service user are invited and taken into account in any decision making process. Since my workplace caring with service users’ with complex communication needs, I may say that person centred approaches are important to ensure their involvement in decisions that may affect their lives.
