Imagine skipping out of a couple P.E. classes and then suddenly you develop a disease.
Although this is an exaggeration, this could surely happen. P.E. classes provide a time for
students to be active. While many people believe it isn’t necessary, it has been proven to help
students. P.E. classes should be mandatory because it helps build character and health benefits
for students.
Despite the negative things that many say about P.E. classes, it still provides students
with their time to be active and healthy. For example, in an article written by Tim Zimmer,
“Advantages and Disadvantages of Mandatory PE in Schools,” he states, “By requiring students

classes help prevent weak bones and muscles. All this reveals that
P.E. classes should be mandatory because they provide amazing health benefits and keep kids
active.
Furthermore, P.E. classes should be mandatory because they help students build
character. To illustrate, in an article by Marie Anderson, she states that, “teamwork, cooperation
and sportsmanship are just a few of the life lessons that can be learned in a P.E. class”. This
means that even if the students aren’t exercising enough in gym class, they are still learning to be
a good person. The article also states that “P.E. is a chance for them to experience playing on a
team.” Being on a team builds lots of character by teaching them to be cooperative, have
teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Overall, P.E. classes are healthy for students because they
help build mentality.
P.E. classes should not be optional for students because it provides them exercise and
