I believe that the media definitely plays a major factor in the criminal justice system in today’s society. Several years ago the effect may have not been a strong as it has now. This could be due to the growth in technology. We currently live in a society where we are surrounded by all types of media. It can be the news, social network, games, movies, music, etc., and just as our textbook say exposure to media content is found everywhere. Within these media we sure hear and see many thing which involves crimes. We see acts of violence in movies, music and games. The media in return do not report accurate facts and exaggerates. As stated above in return it cause fear among the public which then leaves them with negative perception about the police. The public later can begin to blame the system for not acting properly which can cause a lot of pressure among the departments. In my opinion, society seems to have been more violently due to increase use of all media. Violence is seen practically everywhere. It is used to bully via Facebook, it use to promote in commercials, it is used to influence in songs. On the contrary, although I believe that the media disseminate more negative stories and inaccurate facts for ratings, it at times can have positive effects. It is said that research has suggested that the majority of the people in the United States receives most of their impression and knowledge of the criminal justice system through the media, specifically through entertainment television viewing (McNeely, 1995). The media will continue to play a major role in how it affects individuals and how it will influence the criminal justice system to make changes in the way that things are done.
