The public perception of crime can be influenced by the media as they can make a situation bigger than it originally is. Depending on the situation the public, could be affected in a bad way. For example if a gang is persistently committing crimes then the community will be aware of this. Communities will judge crimes by how the media influence the crime. An individual could be affected by the public perception as they could have their own experience of being a victim of the crime.

Crime causes many effects on communities and individual`s one major influence is the media. The media can often manipulate individual’s views and can cause effects onto the community. Some aspects of the media can make people judge other people which can cause problems onto the community, by people talking about particular people, for example a certain skin color.

Fear of crime;
The fear of crime can also be influenced by the media as well as personal experiences of individuals. If a community has many reports of graffiti then the community could be feared out vandalism affecting their personal property. For example their house/cars. This could affect an individual as they could feel fear of crime when they have heard about crimes that have happened near the area.

The fear of crime can affect individuals as by witnessing crime will leave a “scar” for life. Depending on the crime this could affect more people like a community. Again by someone being a part of a crime incident will also affect them as, especially If it is a gang related crime as they will gain respect from their friends which will encourage more crimes occurring.
