However, to find more information on what is covered and figuring out which medical providers participate in the same mental health care networks is most often a hassle (Ross 2). A respondent in a survey shared her story of how her insurance only paid her “primary doctor more for a 10-minute appointment for the flu than it will allow,” her “psychiatrist for an hour-long treatment session” (Ross 2). There might be some insurance available, but they are not able to use them with great benefits. Insurances have not differentiated between mental and physical health values and medical offices have not been too accepting or flexible.
Mental health illnesses should be covered more by health insurance. Due to many Americans having mental illnesses more insurances should publicize coverages so it does not lead to troubling issues. The Affordable Care Act has not really affected the way insurances were told to do and it is still difficult to use insurance for mental health. If insurance providers provided solid coverages it would be easier for customers to decide and efficiently use
