Essay On Museum Of Tolerance
I have grown as a student in the area of knowledge because before this semester I didn’t remember a lot about the Holocaust. I knew that it was a time where many people lost their lives and rights from a man named Adolf Hitler. Now that we were learning it again and that we went to visit the Museum of Tolerance, I remember that Adolf Hitler attacked all of the Jews because of who they are and what they thought was right. Now visiting the Museum and refreshing my memory, I remember that they captured all of the Jews and sent them to concentration camps for them to work until they died or until they got lucky to leave. Museum of Tolerance is evidence of my growth because when we went as a school they showed us and told us things I had forgotten …show more content…
I knew that I knew more, but at times I would forget or even get confused with some of the characters that we had on homework or worksheets. Many of the characters either look a lot or sound similar. When we had test or finals, I would blank out because I would mix some characters with others or just forget everything that was in that lesson. Now that I’ve had more time learning Chinese I’ve remembered more things and I know how to say more things in Chinese. Especially that we’ve been learning how to speak to people. During class we had to make a phone call with a partner speaking in chinese talking about meeting up and doing homework, or to play a sport. This project is evidence of my growth because we had to create a script, and by putting the script together we had used the stuff that we learned into it. During the script we could also dial the wrong number so that we could use everything we learned those past weeks. It is vital for schools to explain the factors of the Holocaust because it has the potential to change the perspective of students and give them the ability to become more aware of a complex history. For starters by learning about the Holocaust efficiently, children are given the chance to realize that our equality and free institutions are not simply granted to us, but need to be fought for. During the Holocaust, there weren’t many people who had chosen to speak up and instead, a multitude of people chose to keep quiet, sprouting another series of problems. In a speech given by Elie Wiesel, he explains how, “There is so much to be done, and there is so much that can be done.” Therefore the author is saying that there are many things in the…

The Holocaust serves as a brutal reminder what can happen when one group of individuals stops seeing another group as human beings. Don’t let the forgotten war be forgotten. “I spent my boyhood behind the barbed wire fences of American internment camps and that part of my life is something that I wanted to share with more people.” -George Takei. Although these tragic accidents happened if survivors never said made their voice heard, people would have never know what they went through and think it’s just another thing that’s…

In more recent cases, Professor Mohammed Dajani has taken a stand also. He fought indifference to allow his Palestinian students a chance to visit Auschwitz in Poland. Putting aside the fact that Israel and his country are at odds, Dajani speaks out and defends his right of education to teach his students about the Holocaust. In paragraph 17, he says, “ We went there for education, and we believe that there are no restrictions over education.” in response to the many disagreeing…

SUMMARY AND RESPONSE TO TEACHING TOLERANCE IN AMER 2 Summary and Response to Teaching Tolerance in America Within his essay “Teaching Tolerance in America,” Devlin (2011) begins by introducing the reader to the current state of the nation‟s schools, specifically high schools, by discussing a variety of ways that tolerance in schools is falling short and that this is a significant problem. He then describes in great detail this issue, but categorizes its cause into to three specific areas: racial differences, gender differences, and social differences. For example, with regard to social differences, Devlin states, “The outsiders, geeks, and gays are ridiculed by everyone and harassed, bullied, and picked on by the jocks and by other members…

For many people, the Holocaust caused them to lose their friends, families, homes and jobs and for most others, it cost them their lives. We know that the first generation of survivors actually experienced the Holocaust and lived through the hardships but what many people don’t know is that the Holocaust still lives on today, in the stories held in people’s hearts, told to them by parents or grandparents. Another question we must ask ourselves is the youth of today being told the Jew’s story? Are they aware of the devastating event that took place in the years between 1933 and…

There was a lot of personal stories of persecution and concentration camps, and it talked a lot about how there is still more people can learn from this event and a lot more people can do to honor those involved with this event. With this another opinion is revealed. It is that some might argue that we should not teach the holocaust for we are focussing too much on the holocaust, and not on genocides happening today. They would be right, we do need to focus on other genocides, but the holocaust is a genocide that presents a lot of things to learn from that many other genocides haven’t. But it’s agreed that yes, we are focussing too much on the holocaust and not a lot of the struggles of people today with racial…

Los Angeles is a busy city that has a lot of great places to visit. For example, restaurants, little places to shop and most important educational places like the Museum of Tolerance. I chose the museum of tolerance to write my new assignment for my class because the name fascinated me and it is a place where I can go with my family. This museum gives examples of tolerance to its visitors by the setups it has inside. The museum is located on the west side of Los Angeles on Pico Boulevard. To enter this museum is not easy, they have checked by security two times before you go inside the building. They check you at the entrance of the parking lot and again after you pay for your tickets…

Our memory serves a source for us to remember our past as well as being respectful by paying homage to all the lives lost during such a horrific era. . Memory of activities is powerful and for holocaust is sad story that today can be used to show the evils of racial discrimination, cold blood murder and the importance of living together as one community in love and harmony (Nguyen, 2013). An event such as the Holocaust we must remember when passing stories down that having ethical remembrance is vital. This means separating what really happened and a biased opinion of what we believed happened. We must not give information those sides with one more than the other. Having a forgiving mind is important because at that time these events were presumed to be politically correct. Let our hearts and minds not form a hatred for a group of people because of the…
