addressing the large matter of both their traditions and way of life being lost to cultural assimilation. The purpose of colonization was to remove them away from their homeland while at the same time assimilating them into the mainstream society of their region. In that way the leaders/government can control all aspects of life. Or in other words, look down and observe, as they can see everything that goes on, influencing the actions of every individuals. Such as implementing many requirements into treaties and pass many laws designed to weaken cultures and traditions of these two indigenous people in order to integrate them into modern society. In due time, the impact of cultural assimilation deeply changed the Navajos and Bedouins, as they were expected to give up their traditions and identity by the government to become civilized, for they were never really accepted by todays modern society. In this case, viewed by today’s society, notably Hollywood, as villains and concludes two sides of Navajo and Bedouin culture as either evil or exotic. For the most part, In comparison, The Bedouins and Navajos are quite similar in many ways.
As they are both one of the most marginalized and oppressed groups in America and the Middle East, thus making Bedouins feel close to Native Americans due to their similar plight. In the book, “Indians Today, The Real and The Unreal” Vine Oeloriajulr claims that indigenous people (minorities) like the Navajos the Bedouins don’t exist, as they are seen as transparent by society where our actions, motives and difficult situations are predicted. Not only are they seen as transparent but they were also forced into heavy assimilation and relocation by the government in their region. Not to mention that both the Navajos and Bedouins were removed from their homeland and relocated to small reservations in which they were taken away from their land, traditions, and culture. However, the Navajos and Bedouins live in two different regions, which provides different results from colonization and assimilation. Such as the Navajos in the United States adopted to assimilation while the Bedouins are still fighting or at war within their country. Under the circumstances that both Navajos and Bedouins reacted to assimilation and relocation in a different
way. In conclusion, the Native Americans and Bedouins have a story that is seldom heard by non-natives. Their story is not only dark and disheartening, but also omitted from a standard western education. Despite how society treats them, I believe that all minorities affected by assimilation and relocation can revitalize their culture and live together peacefully with modern society and coexist by sharing new ideas, beliefs, and attitudes. Through opportunities like these, minorities like the Navajos and Bedouins can benefit greatly from a coexisting culture because it can reduce inequality between nations and provide noble possibilities to become independent nations or government. However, coexisting cultures has its share of difficulties, but it also has its advantages. It all comes down to how much they decide just how badly they want to get up and make positive changes that will affect their future.
