The day Pearl Harbor was attacked was December 7th 1941, or better know as the day of infamy. In this paper we are going to outline the attack on Pearl Harbor, why it was attacked, how it was attacked, and the effects of the attack.
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because they wanted to keep us out of the war with their allies in Germany and France. They said they wanted to stop us from joining the war but in the long run ity made is a bigger part of the war. Later after the attack, a message was sent to Japan from America stating they were going to bomb Japan. They ended up bomb Tokyo and Hiroshima. There were 3 different waves that were going to be attacking. First wave was to attack the harbor, second wave was to attack the airfields, and the third wave was supposed to hit anything left behind but never launched. Americans had a radar system that was brand new and they were trying to understand how to use it. Therefore when a blip popped up on the radar they thought it was a malfunction because the mountains in Hawaii usually messed with the radio waves or outright blocked said wave. So the japanese used that to their advantage and sent the bombers through the mountains.
Immediately after the attack happened the hospitals were flooded with the wounded and dead civilian and soldier alike. The people at Pearl Harbor are stunned at what they have witnessed. A day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, Franklin D Roosevelt called in congress and says he declares wars for this unprovoked, unwarranted, and downright insidious attack.
The after effects were immediate, america joined the war in the allies favor. America had to fight on two fronts when technically we fought on only one considering there was no buffer to japan then there was to germany.
