My opinion on police shootings is they are just trying to do their job. Their job is to protect the people and property which if it takes shooting someone that is not following the demands of the officer then that is what they should do. The research shows that most gunfights accrue at about three-six feet apart from the officer to the inflictor. Police have a job that could get them killed, so when they see someone reach in their pocket or for something they will be extremely aware because they cannot tell if the person is reaching for a gun or just a phone or wallet. There are other less lethal ways of trying to get the person to compromise, but there do not strike fear to them as if a gun was pulled on them sometimes fear is what helps in some cases. Gunfights mainly accrue around 3-6 feet distance from the officer to the inflictor. 3-6 feet is also the distance of where most officers are killed. In my opinion to prevent this or to decline the amount of officers killed is to arm them with close range weapons. If a officer pulls over someone and they reach for something and the officer can’t see what they are reaching for they will more than likely tell them to show their hands and stop to tell them what they are reaching for. If they do not stop the officer will start to feel in danger and pull their gun on the person to warn them about what their actions could cause.
