This month has been definitely an adventure. Trying to maintain and prioritize my educational needs has been a challenge. As I sit here today, I can honestly say I am beginning to get a grip on managing my time, to alleviate my stress; that helps me be a better human service professional. I am currently completing my first practicum at Pro-Act. While completing my internship with this organization I have been able to implement my knowledge I’ve learned throughout the BHHS program, implement my skills, view some ethical practice, and help with starting a new program within the company that focuses toward the area I want to specialize. Subsequently I was able to fulfill my goals set for this semester. To recap, the goals I set the correlate with my practicum were: to learn the specifics of recovery, run/facilitate a group, learn to help those in need/crisis in the recover community. Since setting these goals I have learned through Pro-Act that we are all in recovery from something. Recovery is view with a holistic approach that is geared to assist the service user with their struggles. A positive attribute to assist the service user in the time of need is compassion, understanding, and genuineness.
Social work has many specializations that is linked human services. For example family, child, school, public health, additions, and mental health social workers. Pro-Act has laid the foundation to my journey in the human service field. Although their organization is geared towards additions and mental health; my all-time goal is to specialize in working with the
