Social Penetration Theory by Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor is the process of developing deeper intimacy with another person through mutual self-disclosure and other forms of vulnerability. The reason this theory was not able to be used to properly analyze the event is because there was no mutual disclosure. I was the only one that disclosed anything and showed vulnerability. Now if by me opening up, she had as well and we became better friends because of it, then Social Penetration Theory could have been used, but in this case that is not what occurred and so this theory was not the best option to be used to analyze this particular event and situation. The other theory I opted out of using to analyze this event is Expectancy Violations Theory by Judee Burgoon. This theory actually could have been used to analyze part of this particular event. Expectancy Violations Theory is how individuals respond to unanticipated violations of social norms and expectations. The reason this one could have been used to analyze part of this situation is because during the event my co-owner did what I did not expect of her. But this theory would only have been able to analyze what I did because of what she did that I did not consider to be the norm for her it would not have been able to analyze the entire situation like the Communication Privacy Management Theory was able
