Research on Sexual Offenders

I completed my search from the Kent stark library at school.
To begin conducting a search, I typed in “sexual abusers and offenders”. My results were around 256 for articles.
To reduce my results, I added academic journals for source type and quantitative study for methodology. This knocked my results down to 58.
Furthering to refine my results, I added women or females or girls. This came down to a whopping 17 results.
The two articles I have chosen are Juvenile sexual delinquents: contrasting child abusers with peer abusers and Developmental experiences of child sexual abusers and rapists.

This is important because it can show us at a younger age sexual offenders increasing and if we can find treatment sooner, recidivism will reduce. Other research that was discussed was how personality plays a big key role in sexual offenders and how it is structured. Hendriks and Bijileveld (2003) found that solo offenders in personality came off as more neurotic and impulsive than group offenders. Solo offenders were bullied in early childhood by peers or family at home. They do more verbal abuse than physical harm to the child as well.
6B. Sample size was 116 male juveniles. Ages ranged from 11-17 years old. They were obtained because they were in jail for sexual offense. Hendriks and Bijileveld (2004) aim was to investigate whether juveniles who sexually offend against children (or those at least five years younger than themselves) differ from those who sexually assault their peers or older victims. This was located in the Netherlands and they did psychological screenings for the juvenile courts there. Found that child molesters themselves , majority of them are of the Dutch descent and victims are most of the time male.
