The process of becoming male or female occurs during childhood and youth through things such as color and toys. As a female, I grow up with things that were pink and purple in fact my bedroom walls were those colors. Pink and purple are deemed “girls’ colors” which makes it seem like girls are the only ones that can like the colors it also fits into the stereotype that girls are “sugar, spice, and everything nice.” Many of us are raised to think what colors we like deem if we are girly, tomboyish, and manly. There are also the toys we play with make us male or female. When I grew up I had over two hundred littlest pet shops, which are these little toy animals in all sorts of colors. However, my brother grew up with hot wheels, which are cool cars that you could play with. Males are usually associated with toughness which is represented through there toys whether it be hot wheels and hexbug. While girl toys show that girls are dilate and belong in the house through Barbie and toy kitchens.
The culture in the United States has drastically changed since World War II, when women really started to enter the work force. Since then more women have gone to college and got degrees in many careers that were deemed “man jobs.” Woman are supporting their families just like man however, women
are not treated the same. Males are traditional paid more money and have more respect.
