Substance abuse is when a person excessively uses a type of bad substance such as drugs or alcohol. Substance dependence is when a person requires drugs to function normally. This person first abuses the drug then it dependence on the drug to carry on their day normally. Substance tolerance is when a person has use the drug so much that it does not feel the same high and might require more of the substance to feel an effect. If a person has a tolerance to a drug than that person has abused the substance. Substance withdrawal is when a drug is removed from the consumer and they experience different kind of symptoms like anxiety, sweating, vomiting, and depression. A type of depressant is alcohol which gives the consumer a high feeling, but if the consumer drinks to much they can end up in a coma. Opioids are also depressants which blocks pain and makes one drowsy. The potential harm by opioids are respiratory problems during sleep.
